🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ There Is No True Satisfaction Without God — You Will Remain Thirsty

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 2:10–11 KJV

“And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.

Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.”

Devotion :

Have you ever wanted something SO BAD that you just knew:

“If I could get THAT, I would be happy.”

Then you got it.

😊

And for a little while, you were excited!

But eventually the excitement wore off.

Then you needed…

something else. 👀

Another purchase.

Another accomplishment.

Another relationship.

Another promotion.

Another goal.

Another something.

It’s almost like drinking something that tastes good but never quenches your thirst.

You keep drinking…

But you’re still thirsty.

THAT’S WHAT LIFE WITHOUT GOD WILL DO TO YOU.

You can keep filling your life and still feel EMPTY.

Whewww! 😮‍💨

Today’s Scripture comes from somebody who was actually in a position to test this for himself.

Solomon wasn’t sitting somewhere with nothing, imagining what having everything might feel like.

HE HAD IT.

If you read Ecclesiastes 2, Solomon describes pursuing pleasure, accomplishments, possessions, wealth, entertainment, houses, vineyards, gardens, servants, silver, gold, singers…

He essentially said:

“Whatever my eyes wanted, I didn’t tell myself no.”

👀

Some of us think we’d be completely satisfied if we could just afford everything in our Amazon cart. 😂

Solomon had the resources to say:

“I WANT IT.”

And then…

GET IT.

And money is a perfect example.

Our world has a THIRST FOR MONEY. 💰

People kill for it.

Steal for it.

Lie and cheat for it.

Stress themselves nearly to death trying to get more of it.

Because somewhere along the way, many people became convinced:

“IF I COULD JUST GET RICH, MY PROBLEMS WOULD BE SOLVED.”

But look at Solomon.

HE WAS RICH!

He had wealth, possessions, women, accomplishments, influence, and access to practically anything his eyes desired.

And after having what so many people are still chasing, he looked at it all and said:

“…behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit…”

Whewww! 😮‍💨

Money can solve a money problem, but it cannot solve a soul problem.

Solomon had plenty of money…

AND HE WAS STILL THIRSTY.

And money isn’t the only thing we thirst after.

Relationships.

Success.

Possessions.

Attention.

Accomplishments.

Status.

Pleasure.

THE THIRST JUST KEEPS MOVING.

“If I get the house, I’ll be satisfied.”

Get the house.

Now you’re looking at another house.

“If I get married, I’ll finally be happy.”

Then you expect another human being to fill a place inside of you that no human being was created to fill.

“If I get enough followers, I’ll feel important.”

Get 1,000.

Now you want 10,000.

Get 10,000.

Now you want 100,000.

😮‍💨

That’s why people can have money and still be miserable.

Be famous and still be lonely.

Be married and still feel empty.

Own beautiful things and still have no peace.

Reach the goal they prayed about for years…

And six months later ask:

“Okay… what’s next?”

There is nothing wrong with enjoying the blessings God gives us.

There is nothing wrong with having goals, making money, enjoying nice things, traveling, getting married, or celebrating accomplishments.

THE PROBLEM IS EXPECTING CREATED THINGS TO DO WHAT ONLY THE CREATOR CAN DO.

OOOOOOEW WEEEEE! 😮‍💨🙌🏽

A spouse cannot be your God.

Your children cannot be your God.

Money cannot be your God.

Your career cannot be your God.

Success cannot be your God.

And people’s applause and validation cannot be your God.

Because eventually all of those things will prove incapable of satisfying the deepest needs of your soul.

YOU WILL REMAIN THIRSTY.

And Jesus spoke directly to this kind of thirst.

In John 4, He met a Samaritan woman at a well.

She came looking for natural water.

But Jesus knew she had a deeper thirst.

He told her in John 4:13–14:

“Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst…”

WHEWWWW! 🙌🏽🔥

“SHALL THIRST AGAIN.”

That’s what happens when we keep trying to satisfy a spiritual thirst with natural things.

Buy this.

Achieve this.

Get this relationship.

Reach this position.

Make this amount of money.

Get people to notice you.

And after you get it?

THIRST AGAIN.

But Jesus says:

“COME TO ME.”

Some people have spent years trying to fill a spiritual thirst with natural things.

You don’t necessarily need another purchase.

You may not need another relationship.

You may not need another achievement.

You may not even need another opportunity.

YOU MAY NEED MORE OF GOD.

Sometimes God even allows us to finally obtain the thing we were convinced would satisfy us so we can discover:

“THIS ISN’T WHAT MY SOUL WAS LOOKING FOR.”

Solomon got it.

Solomon experienced it.

Solomon looked at it.

And Solomon realized:

THIS STILL ISN’T ENOUGH.

Maybe your life looks fine.

You have things you once prayed for.

You’ve accomplished things you once dreamed about.

People may even look at your life and think:

“I wish I had what they have.”

But privately…

YOU’RE STILL THIRSTY.

Stop trying to cure a God-sized thirst with things that were never designed to satisfy it.

Go back to God.

Spend time with Him.

Pray.

Read His Word.

Worship Him.

Talk to Him.

And let Jesus become more important than what He can give you.

Because there is a difference between wanting God’s hand…

and wanting GOD.

When God becomes the center, you can enjoy things without needing things to complete you.

You can love people without making them your source.

You can accomplish goals without building your identity around them.

Because your satisfaction isn’t rooted in the thing.

IT’S ROOTED IN GOD.

Maybe you’ve been thirsty for a long time.

You’ve just been drinking from the wrong places.

Stop chasing another temporary refill.

GO TO THE SOURCE.

Money runs out.

Attention changes.

People change.

Possessions get old.

Accomplishments become yesterday’s news.

But Jesus said the water He gives becomes “a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

You don’t have to spend your entire life THIRSTY.

THERE IS NO TRUE SATISFACTION WITHOUT GOD.

And when your soul finally recognizes what it has been searching for all along…

YOU’LL REALIZE IT WAS GOD. 🙌🏽💙

What have you been telling yourself will finally make you happy?

“If I can just get ________, then I’ll be satisfied.”

Money?

A relationship?

A house?

Success?

Attention?

A certain lifestyle?

Be honest with yourself and ask:

“LORD, WHAT HAVE I BEEN USING TO TRY TO SATISFY A THIRST THAT ONLY YOU CAN QUENCH?”

Prayer :

Father God, I need You.

Forgive me for the times I have looked to money, people, possessions, relationships, accomplishments, or attention to give me what only You can provide.

I have chased things believing they would satisfy me, only to discover that I was still thirsty.

Lord, fill every empty place in me.

Teach me to enjoy Your blessings without making them my source.

Help me desire You more than what You can give me.

When I become distracted by what the world says I need, remind me that my soul was created for You.

Give me Your peace, Your joy, and Your presence.

Lord, I don’t want to spend my life chasing temporary things while my soul remains thirsty.

SATISFY MY SOUL WITH YOU.
