🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ What’s Wrong With Sex Outside of Marriage?

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:18–20 KJV

“Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Devotion :

Everybody is doing it, right?

You can probably think back to the age you started.

Sex outside of marriage has become so common that many people don’t even stop to ask:

“IS THERE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS?”

It’s almost considered an automatic activity in casual relationships.

You like each other.

There’s chemistry.

The passion starts rising.

Your loins catch on fire. 🔥😂

And before you’ve had time to think about anything, you act on what you’re feeling.

The enemy makes it sound harmless:

It’s natural.

It feels good.

Nobody is getting hurt.

You’re both adults.

Everybody does it.

So what’s the problem?

SEX IS POWERFUL.

And powerful things require boundaries.

God didn’t create sex as something dirty or shameful. God created sex. But He also established where this powerful gift belongs: within the covenant of marriage.

Sex joins bodies. It creates vulnerability. It can create children. It can carry physical consequences. It can complicate emotions, cloud judgment, deepen attachments, and connect you to somebody in ways you may not have considered before the passion took over.

That’s why refraining from sex when you know it isn’t right is actually one of the biggest FLEXES of self-control.

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Anybody can give in to an urge.

SELF-CONTROL IS BEING ABLE TO HAVE AN URGE AND STILL TELL YOUR BODY NO.

Whewww! 😮‍💨

Now look at today’s Scripture.

Paul says:

“FLEE FORNICATION.”

Not play with it.

Not see how close you can get.

Not stay over until 2:00 in the morning talking about, “We’re not going to do anything.” 😂👀

FLEE.

And then Paul tells us something that should make us pay attention:

“…he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.”

Wait a minute.

MY OWN BODY?!

Whewww! 😮‍💨

Why?

Because sexual sin uniquely involves your own body in the act itself. Paul isn’t saying other sins can never physically harm your body. He’s showing us that sexual immorality takes the very body God gave you, the body Scripture calls “the temple of the Holy Ghost”, and involves it directly in something outside God’s design.

Think about it practically.

If somebody tells a lie, they may sin against another person.

If somebody steals, they take something belonging to another person.

But in sexual immorality, your own body becomes involved in the very thing God told you to flee.

And sex isn’t merely something happening around your body.

IT IS HAPPENING WITH YOUR BODY.

That’s why Paul immediately says:

“Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost…?”

OOOOOOEW WEEEEE! 😮‍💨🔥

God is saying:

YOUR BODY MATTERS TO ME.

What you do with it matters.

Who you give access to it matters.

You don’t have to give somebody your body because they bought dinner.

You don’t owe somebody sex because you’re dating.

You don’t have to prove you love somebody by sleeping with them.

And being sexually attracted to somebody doesn’t mean you have to act on that attraction.

YOU CAN SAY NO.

👏🏽

And maybe this helps somebody see God’s instruction differently.

God isn’t standing over you saying:

“I DON’T WANT YOU TO HAVE ANY FUN.”

No.

Sometimes God’s “WAIT” is protection.

His boundaries are not punishment.

GOD MAY BE PROTECTING YOU FROM SOMETHING YOUR PASSION ISN’T THINKING ABOUT YET.

Whewww! 🙌🏽

And if you’ve already had sex outside of marriage, this devotion isn’t here to shame you.

Remember, Paul was writing to people who needed instruction and transformation too.

You can repent.

You can make a different decision.

You can establish new boundaries.

And yes, even if you’ve already been sexually active with somebody, you can decide:

“FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, I’M GOING TO HONOR GOD WITH MY BODY.”

Past decisions don’t require future repetition.

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

We’re only introducing this conversation today because there’s much more to talk about.

But start here:

Your body isn’t worthless.

Your body isn’t casual.

Your body isn’t something everybody who attracts you deserves access to.

Scripture says:

YOUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY GHOST.

So perhaps instead of only asking:

“What’s wrong with having sex?”

We should also ask:

“DOES WHAT I’M DOING WITH MY BODY HONOR GOD?”

Because God isn’t telling you to wait because He wants to deprive you.

HE’S TEACHING YOU THAT YOU AND YOUR BODY ARE WORTH PROTECTING. 🙏🏽💙

Have you treated sex as something casual simply because the world treats it that way?

Today, don’t examine everybody else’s sexual choices.

Ask yourself:

“LORD, AM I HONORING YOU WITH MY BODY?”

And if the answer is no, don’t hide from God.

Bring it to Him and make a new decision.

Prayer :

Father God, thank You for loving me enough to give me boundaries.

Forgive me for every time I have allowed passion, loneliness, pressure, attraction, or the world’s standards to determine what I do with my body.

Help me understand that my body matters to You.

Give me self-control when temptation comes.

Give me wisdom to establish boundaries before passion makes the decision for me.

And where I have fallen short, thank You for Your mercy and forgiveness.

Help me not to live in shame, but to repent, get back up, and make choices that honor You.

Lord, teach me to glorify You in my body and in my spirit.

In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏽💙
