🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ Thoughtful Daily Living
Scripture: Psalm 90:12 KJV
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
Devotion :
Many people are making daily decisions as if they’re going to live forever or as if today’s choices won’t affect their tomorrow.
We wake up.
Go to work.
Scroll.
Spend.
Talk.
React.
Get angry.
Make decisions.
Go to sleep.
Then wake up and do it all over again.
But how often do we actually STOP AND THINK ABOUT HOW WE’RE LIVING?
Today’s Scripture says:
“So teach us to number our days…”
In other words:
MY DAYS ARE LIMITED.
I don’t have unlimited time.
Neither do you.
And when you really understand that, you start becoming more careful about what you do with the days God gives you.
Because…
HOW YOU SPEND YOUR DAYS IS HOW YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE.
Whewww! 😮💨
This Scripture is actually very personal to me.
Well over 20 years ago, I was over a Christian group for young ladies between the ages of 14–19. I was helping them develop as young women: spiritually, mentally, and in how they approached life.
Psalm 90:12 was one of the Scriptures I had them MEMORIZE.
But we didn’t just memorize it.
WE TALKED ABOUT IT.
We had a Bible study discussion about what it actually means to realize that your days are numbered and that the decisions you’re making as a young person are helping shape the life you’re going to live.
And you know what?
THEY NEVER FORGOT THIS SCRIPTURE.
🥹🙌🏽
It made them stop and think more seriously about their lives.
Looking back now, I understand even more why this was such an important Scripture to put into the hearts of young women at 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 years old.
Because those are ages when so many decisions can be based on:
“What do I want RIGHT NOW?”
“Everybody else is doing it.”
“I like him.”
“I’m mad.”
“I don’t feel like it.”
“I’ll worry about that later.”
But Psalm 90:12 teaches something completely different:
THINK ABOUT YOUR LIFE.
Your days matter.
Your decisions matter.
Your future matters.
And what you’re doing today is helping create the life you’ll be living tomorrow.
WHEWWW! 😮💨🙌🏽
And all these years later, this Scripture has remained an anchor for me too.
There have been plenty of decisions, transitions, emotional moments, opportunities, disappointments, and crossroads over the years where I’ve had to come back to this wisdom:
My days are valuable.
My time is valuable.
My decisions have consequences.
I NEED GOD’S WISDOM FOR HOW I LIVE MY LIFE.
That’s why this Scripture is still SO GOOD to me!
Whether you’re 14 or 84, we all need God to teach us how to use the days He’s given us wisely.
YOU ARE NEVER TOO YOUNG TO START LIVING THOUGHTFULLY; AND YOU’RE NEVER TOO OLD TO START LIVING MORE INTENTIONALLY.
🙌🏽💙
And there’s another side to thoughtful living:
TODAY’S DECISIONS CAN FOLLOW YOU INTO TOMORROW.
One impulsive decision can take five minutes to make…
and five years to recover from.
Whewww! 😮💨
You get angry at work and tell your supervisor exactly what you think.
It felt good for about 30 seconds. 😂
Tomorrow?
You’re unemployed.
You spend money you know you don’t have because:
“I deserve it!”
It feels good today.
Next month you’re staring at the bill wondering why you did it.
You get angry with somebody and send that text.
Your finger is hovering over SEND.
You know you’re emotional.
You know you need to calm down.
But…
SEND. 😬
Now you’re apologizing for words you can’t take back.
Or you’re attracted to somebody and ignore every warning sign because:
“But I like them!”
Six months later, you’re trying to recover from something your wisdom warned you about before you entered it.
EVERYTHING THAT FEELS GOOD TODAY ISN’T GOOD FOR YOUR TOMORROW.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
At some point…
WE HAVE TO GROW UP.
Children often make decisions based on what they want RIGHT NOW.
“I want that!”
“I don’t want to!”
“I’m mad!”
“That’s not fair!”
They aren’t naturally thinking:
“How will this decision affect me three years from now?”
That’s why they need guidance.
But maturity teaches us to think beyond the moment.
And some of us are grown…
but still making decisions entirely based on:
“THIS IS HOW I FEEL RIGHT NOW.”
👀 Whewww!
Feelings are real.
But feelings should not always be in charge.
You can be angry and wait before responding.
You can want something and decide you can’t afford it.
You can be attracted to somebody and recognize they’re not good for you.
You can be offended and decide not to retaliate.
You can be afraid and still obey God.
WISDOM THINKS PAST THE MOMENT.
That’s why the second part of Psalm 90:12 is so important:
“…that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
Don’t just ask:
“WHAT DO I WANT TO DO?”
Ask:
“WHAT IS THE WISE THING TO DO?”
🙌🏽
Before you quit…
THINK.
Before you spend…
THINK.
Before you respond…
THINK.
Before you post…
THINK.
Before you enter the relationship…
THINK.
Before you walk away from something important…
THINK.
And most importantly:
PRAY.
“Lord, where will this decision take me?”
“Will this matter a year from now?”
“Does this align with Your Word?”
“Am I responding from wisdom or emotion?”
And here’s a good one:
“WILL TOMORROW’S VERSION OF ME BE GRATEFUL FOR WHAT TODAY’S VERSION OF ME IS ABOUT TO DO?”
OOOOOOEW WEEEEE! 😮💨🙌🏽
That’s thoughtful daily living.
It doesn’t mean you’ll never make another mistake.
It means you’re no longer willing to live your entire life on impulse.
And thoughtful living isn’t only about avoiding bad decisions.
It’s also about making sure we’re spending our limited days on things that actually matter.
Call your mama.
Spend time with your children.
Love your spouse.
Finish the assignment.
Start what God told you to start.
Forgive.
Pray.
Read your Bible.
Take care of your body.
Rest.
Help somebody.
Tell somebody you love them.
Tell somebody about Jesus.
Stop waiting for “one day” to start living intentionally.
THIS IS ONE OF YOUR DAYS.
And you don’t get this exact one back.
🙏🏽
Stop living as though you have unlimited tomorrows.
Stop letting temporary emotions make decisions that can produce long-term consequences.
Stop wasting valuable days on things that don’t deserve your life.
LIVE ON PURPOSE.
Think.
Pray.
Use wisdom.
And make today’s choices with tomorrow in mind.
God bless you. 🙏🏽💙
Reflect & Respond ✍🏽
Let’s not just read today’s devotion and move on.
LET’S PUT IT INTO PRACTICE.
Before you go to bed today, take out a piece of paper or open the notes on your phone.
Write down three decisions currently in front of you—big or small.
For each one, ask yourself:
1. Why am I considering this?
2. Am I being led by wisdom or by how I feel right now?
3. If I make this decision today, where could it take me six months or a year from now?
4. Does this deserve my time, energy, money, attention, or peace?
5. Have I prayed about it?
Then take an honest look at how you’ve been spending your days and ask yourself:
“IF I KEEP SPENDING MY DAYS THIS WAY, DO I WANT THE LIFE THESE DAYS ARE BUILDING?”
WHEWWWW! 😮💨🔥
And finally, before making your next important decision, pause and ask:
“WHERE WILL THIS DECISION TAKE ME?”
If your answers reveal something you don’t like, don’t condemn yourself.
CHANGE IT.
You’re still here.
You still have today. 🙌🏽
Ask God to teach you to number your days and apply your heart unto wisdom.
Remember:
HOW YOU SPEND YOUR DAYS IS HOW YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE.
Prayer :
Father God, thank You for the days You have given me.
Please teach me to number my days and apply my heart unto wisdom.
Forgive me for the time I’ve wasted and the decisions I’ve made purely from emotion, anger, impatience, fear, pressure, or temporary desires.
Help me slow down.
Help me think before I respond.
Help me pray before I decide.
Give me wisdom to recognize what deserves my time and what doesn’t.
Teach me to consider tomorrow while making decisions today.
Lord, help me spend my days loving You, loving people, fulfilling my assignments, taking care of what You have entrusted to me, and doing things that have eternal value.
Don’t let me waste my life chasing things that don’t matter.
Give me wisdom, discipline, maturity, and intentionality.
And when my emotions are loud…
LET YOUR WISDOM BE LOUDER.
Teach me to live every day knowing that my days are precious.
In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏽💙
