🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ Let God Heal Your Broken Heart
Scripture: Psalm 34:18 KJV
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
Devotion :
Have you ever had your heart broken?
Or maybe the better question is…
IS YOUR HEART BROKEN RIGHT NOW? 💔
Sometimes we hear the words broken heart and immediately think about a romantic relationship.
Oh, but there are SO MANY WAYS a heart can break.
Your own child can break your heart.
Someone you loved deeply can reject you.
A spouse can betray you.
A friendship you thought would last forever can end.
Someone you trusted can turn around and hurt you.
You can lose someone you love to death and feel like a piece of your heart went with them.
You can pour years into a marriage or relationship only to watch it fall apart.
You can experience church hurt: being wounded by the very people you worshipped, served, prayed, and fellowshipped with.
Sometimes your heart breaks because someone you would have NEVER expected to hurt you…
hurt you.
😢
And that kind of pain hits differently.
I know how it feels to have a broken heart.
I know what it’s like when something hurts so deeply that people can look at you and have absolutely no idea what you’re carrying inside.
You can still go to work.
Still answer the phone.
Still smile.
Still cook dinner.
Still go to church.
Still say:
“I’m okay.”
And your heart is saying:
“NO, I’M NOT.”
💔🙏🏽
That’s why I love today’s Scripture.
David says:
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart…”
Whewww! 😮💨
GOD COMES CLOSE TO BROKEN HEARTS.
Think about that.
When your heart is broken, you may feel like God is far away.
But Scripture says the opposite.
HE IS NEAR.
When you’re crying and nobody knows…
He’s near.
When rejection has you questioning your worth…
He’s near.
When your child has done something that has absolutely crushed you…
He’s near.
When somebody betrayed your trust…
He’s near.
When church hurt has made you afraid to trust spiritual leaders or believers again…
He’s near.
When you’re lying awake at night replaying conversations and wondering:
“HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO ME?”
GOD IS NEAR. 🙏🏽
And sisters and brothers, Jesus understands what it means to be hurt by people.
Jesus was rejected.
Isaiah 53:3 prophetically describes Him as “despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.”
One of His own disciples betrayed Him.
Peter denied knowing Him.
People He came to save cried out for His crucifixion.
So when you take your pain to Jesus, you aren’t talking to Someone who doesn’t understand rejection, betrayal, sorrow, or grief.
JESUS KNOWS WHAT PEOPLE CAN DO TO A HEART.
😢🙏🏽
But please hear me:
DON’T LET WHAT BROKE YOUR HEART BREAK YOUR LIFE.
WHEWWWW! 😮💨
Because untreated pain can start producing more pain.
Some people try to numb heartbreak with alcohol.
Some turn to drugs.
Some jump from relationship to relationship because they cannot stand being alone with their pain.
Some isolate themselves.
Some become bitter.
Some become angry.
Some stop trusting everybody because one person betrayed them.
Some experience prolonged sadness and depression and need support beyond what they’ve been trying to carry alone.
And sometimes the person who hurt you has moved on with their life…
While you’re still allowing what they did to control yours.
No.
💔➡️❤️🩹
LET GOD HEAL YOUR BROKEN HEART.
Healing doesn’t mean pretending it didn’t hurt.
Healing doesn’t mean what they did was okay.
Healing doesn’t mean you have to give unsafe people access to you again.
And healing doesn’t always happen overnight.
Sometimes God heals us through prayer.
Through His Word.
Through time.
Through forgiveness.
Through healthy boundaries.
Through wise people.
And sometimes through counselors, pastors, support groups, doctors, or other help God places around us.
GET THE HELP YOU NEED.
There is no prize for suffering silently.
🙏🏽
And I especially want to speak to somebody carrying church hurt.
Please don’t confuse what people did to you with who God is.
People can misuse positions.
People can disappoint you.
Leaders can be wrong.
Church people can behave in ways that don’t resemble Christ at all.
But don’t allow somebody’s poor representation of God to cause you to walk away from God Himself.
TAKE THE WOUND TO THE ONE WHO CAN HEAL IT.
Whewww! 🙌🏽
And maybe your broken heart involves your children.
That’s a different kind of hurt.
Because when your child hurts…
you hurt.
When they make destructive decisions…
You hurt.
When you’ve prayed, taught, sacrificed, warned, loved, and tried everything you knew to do—and they still chose another direction…
THAT CAN BREAK A PARENT’S HEART.
🙏🏽💔
But even there…
GOD IS NEAR.
You cannot control every decision another person makes, even when you love them with your whole heart.
Give them to God.
Pray.
Love wisely.
Set boundaries where necessary.
And ask God to heal you while He works on what you cannot control.
Because a broken heart can convince you that you’ll always feel the way you feel right now.
THAT IS NOT TRUE.
You can laugh again.
You can love again.
You can trust wisely again.
You can worship again.
You can enjoy your life again.
You can walk into a room without thinking about who rejected you.
You can hear their name without your entire day falling apart.
You can remember what happened without reliving it.
YOU CAN HEAL. ❤️🩹🙌🏽
Not because the wound wasn’t deep.
But because God’s healing can reach deeper than the wound.
My, my, my! 🙌🏽
And sometimes while we’re asking God:
“Lord, put everything back exactly like it was!”
God may be saying:
“I’m going to heal YOU even if I don’t restore THAT.”
WHEWWWW! 😮💨🔥
Because sometimes healing isn’t getting the relationship back.
Sometimes healing is finally having peace without it.
Sometimes healing isn’t receiving the apology.
It’s becoming free even though they never gave you one.
Sometimes healing isn’t understanding why they did it.
It’s no longer needing the answer in order to move forward.
LET GOD HEAL YOUR BROKEN HEART.
Give Him the part you’ve been hiding.
Give Him the anger.
Give Him the rejection.
Give Him the betrayal.
Give Him the grief.
Give Him the disappointment.
Give Him the memories.
Give Him the questions.
Give Him the tears.
You don’t have to pretend with God.
Tell Him:
“LORD, THIS HURT ME.”
And then let the God who is near to the brokenhearted begin putting you back together.
🙏🏽❤️🩹
Reflect & Respond
What broke your heart?
And more importantly:
HAVE YOU ACTUALLY ALLOWED GOD INTO THAT BROKEN PLACE?
Or have you become so accustomed to carrying the pain that it has become part of who you are?
Today, tell God exactly where it hurts.
Don’t minimize it.
Don’t hide it.
Don’t pretend you’re over something you’re still struggling with.
Pray:
“LORD, I DON’T WANT TO JUST LIVE WITH THIS BROKEN HEART. I WANT YOU TO HEAL IT.”
❤️🩹🙏🏽
Prayer :
Father God, please heal my broken heart.
You know exactly what happened.
You know who hurt me.
You know what I lost.
You know the rejection, betrayal, disappointment, grief, and pain I have carried.
You even know about the tears I never let anybody see.
Lord, Your Word says You are near to the brokenhearted.
So come near to me right now.
❤️🩹🙏🏽
Heal the places I’ve tried to hide.
Heal the pain I’ve tried to numb.
Heal the rejection that made me question my worth.
Heal the betrayal that made me afraid to trust.
Heal the church hurt that affected my relationship with Your people.
Heal the pain concerning my children and the people I love.
Deliver me from bitterness, anger, unhealthy coping, and anything I have used to avoid dealing with my pain.
Help me forgive without becoming foolish.
Help me establish boundaries without becoming bitter.
Help me remember without constantly reliving.
And Lord, where I need additional help, give me the courage and wisdom to receive it.
I give You my broken pieces.
I may not know how to put them back together…
BUT YOU DO.
Restore my joy.
Restore my peace.
Restore my hope.
And help me believe that this pain does not get to determine the rest of my life.
HEAL MY BROKEN HEART, LORD.
In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏽❤️🩹💙
