Scripture: Romans 15:13 (KJV)
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Devotion:
Did you know that our emotions are often triggered more by how we interpret situations than by the situations themselves?
Think about that for a minute.
Have you ever heard someone say,
“You’re worrying yourself sick!”
Whewww!
As a child, I thought that was just an old saying.
Now I know it’s actually true.
You can worry yourself sick.
Excessive, chronic worrying doesn’t just affect your thoughts…
It affects your body too.
When we constantly worry, our bodies stay in “fight or flight” mode. Stress hormones continue flooding our system, and over time they can contribute to real physical problems.
Things like:
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Upset stomach and nausea
Acid reflux
High blood pressure
Heart palpitations or a racing heart
Hyperventilation
Tension headaches
Fatigue
Trouble sleeping
…and so much more.
Whewwww!
Have you ever worried about something for days?
How did your body feel?
Did your stomach stay in knots?
Did you lose your appetite?
Or maybe you couldn’t sleep because your mind just wouldn’t stop racing.
Now let me ask you something.
How many of those hours of worrying actually changed the outcome?
😮💨
Probably none.
That’s why trusting God is not just spiritually beneficial…
It’s emotionally beneficial…
Mentally beneficial…
And yes, even physically beneficial.
Let’s look at today’s scripture.
Paul says,
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing…”
Notice what produces the joy and peace.
Believing.
Trusting.
Having faith.
Not having all the answers.
Not knowing exactly how everything will work out.
But believing that God does.
Whewwww!!
Then he says,
”…that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Did you catch that?
Hope isn’t something we have to manufacture ourselves.
God gives it to us through His Spirit.
Now imagine two people sitting in the same hospital waiting room.
Both have received difficult news.
Both are facing the exact same situation.
One person spends every hour imagining the worst.
They’re crying…
Pacing the floor…
Unable to eat…
Unable to sleep…
Their mind keeps saying,
“What if everything goes wrong?”
The other person is just as concerned.
They’re praying.
They’re shedding tears too.
But every time fear tries to rise…
They remind themselves,
“God is still in control.”
“I don’t understand everything, but I trust Him.”
“My situation didn’t surprise God.”
Do you see the difference?
Both had the same problem.
But only one had peace.
Why?
Because one chose faith over fear.
Now don’t misunderstand me.
Trusting God doesn’t mean you’ll never feel concerned.
It doesn’t mean you won’t cry.
It doesn’t mean you’ll never have difficult days.
Even Jesus wept.
But trusting God means you don’t allow worry to become your master.
Instead of feeding your fears…
Feed your faith.
Instead of replaying the problem…
Replay God’s promises.
Instead of asking,
“What if everything goes wrong?”
Start asking,
“What if God works another miracle?”
Whewwww!! 🙌🏽🔥🏃🏾♀️➡️
My faith has caused me to have victory and better outcomes, so many times!! Glory Hallelujah!
I’ve lived long enough to know this…
Many of the things we spend weeks worrying about…
Never happen.
And the things that do happen…
God gives us the grace to make it through.
So why suffer twice?
Once in your imagination…
And again if the problem actually comes?
Today, I encourage you to stop carrying tomorrow’s problems before tomorrow even gets here.
Give them to God.
He has never asked you to carry them.
The more you trust Him…
The more your heart will rest.
The more your mind will be at peace.
And I truly believe…
You’ll feel better if you trust God more.
God bless you!
Reflection
Take a quiet moment today and ask yourself:
What have I been worrying about that I need to place in God’s hands today?
Don’t keep rehearsing the problem.
Start rehearsing God’s promises.
Faith doesn’t always change the situation immediately…
But it will change you while you’re waiting.
Prayer:
Father God, thank You for being the God of hope, peace, and joy. Forgive me for the times I have worried more than I have trusted You. I confess that there are situations I cannot control, but I know they are never beyond Your control. Today I choose to place every fear, every burden, every anxious thought, and every unanswered question into Your hands. Fill my heart with the peace that only You can give. Help me to stop imagining the worst and begin expecting Your goodness. Strengthen my faith through the power of the Holy Ghost, and remind me that You have never failed me. When worry tries to return, teach me to pray instead. I trust that You are already working behind the scenes for my good. Thank You for carrying what I cannot.
In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏼🕊️
