🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ The Consequences of Ignoring God!

Scripture: Deuteronomy 29:19 (KJV)

“And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:”

Devotion:

Have you ever seen someone who knew better…

But still did the wrong thing?

Maybe your parents warned you not to hang around certain people.

Your grandparents told you to save your money.

A pastor warned you not to enter a relationship that wasn’t honoring God.

Or maybe someone told you not to drink and drive because it could cost you your life.

Yet people still say,

“I’ll be alright.”

😮‍💨 Whewww!

Sometimes we don’t even have to experience something ourselves to know it’s dangerous.

We learn by watching the consequences other people face.

We’ve seen people lose their families because of infidelity.

We’ve seen people lose successful careers because of dishonesty.

We’ve watched addictions destroy lives.

We’ve watched pride ruin relationships.

We’ve watched people ignore God’s warnings… and suffer the consequences.

Yet somehow…

The enemy whispers,

“That won’t happen to you.”

Whewwww!

That’s one of the greatest lies he tells.

A young person says,

“Everybody else is doing it.”

A married person says,

“It’s just texting. Nothing is going to happen.”

Someone keeps spending money they don’t have and says,

“I’ll figure it out later.”

A believer keeps putting off repentance thinking,

“I’ve got time. I’ll get serious about God one day.”

My, my, my!

Do you see the pattern?

It’s the dangerous belief that God’s warnings apply to everybody else… but not me.

That’s pride.

And pride can make an intelligent person act foolish.

Nothing…

And nobody…

Is greater than God.

We must remain humble enough to receive His correction.

Let’s look at today’s scripture.

Moses describes a person who hears God’s warning…

But instead of trembling…

Instead of repenting…

They comfort themselves.

Listen to what they say:

“I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart.”

Whewww!!

In today’s language, they’re saying,

“I know what God said… but I’m going to do what I want anyway.”

“I’ll be fine.”

“Nothing is going to happen.”

“God understands.”

“Everybody sins.”

“I’ll repent later.”

Smh.

That’s a dangerous place to be.

Notice they didn’t ignore God because they lacked knowledge.

They ignored Him because they believed their own opinion over God’s truth.

They trusted their feelings more than His Word.

How many people today are making life-changing decisions based on what feels right instead of what God says is right?

The Bible tells us there is “a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

Just because something feels good…

Doesn’t mean it’s God’s will.

Just because everyone approves…

Doesn’t mean heaven approves.

Just because there wasn’t an immediate consequence…

Doesn’t mean there won’t be one.

Whewwww!!

One thing I’ve learned about God is this:

His warnings are expressions of His love.

He doesn’t warn us because He wants to control us.

He warns us because He wants to protect us.

Think about a parent telling their child,

“Don’t touch that hot stove!”

The child may think,

“They’re trying to keep me from having fun.”

No.

They’re trying to keep them from getting burned.

God’s commandments work the same way.

Every instruction He gives is for our good.

So today, don’t ignore the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

Don’t silence His voice.

Don’t keep telling yourself,

“I’ll be okay.”

Instead, humble yourself.

Listen.

Obey.

Because every time God warns us, He’s giving us an opportunity to avoid unnecessary pain.

Reflection

Take a quiet moment today and ask yourself:

Is there an area of my life where I know what God has said… but I’m still choosing my own way?

Don’t justify it.

Don’t delay.

God’s correction is His love reaching toward you.

Respond while His hand is extended.

Prayer:

Father God, thank You for loving me enough to warn me before I walk into danger. Forgive me for every time I have ignored Your voice, justified my own actions, or believed that Your warnings did not apply to me. Remove every trace of pride and stubbornness from my heart. Help me to humble myself before You and to trust Your Word above my own feelings and understanding. Give me ears to hear Your voice and a heart that is quick to obey. Lord, I don’t want to learn everything the hard way. Teach me through Your wisdom instead of through painful consequences. Thank You for Your mercy, Your patience, and Your grace. From this day forward, I choose to follow Your way because I know Your plans for me are good.
