🕊️ PRAY HERE DEVOTION 🕊️
Using Grace As A Pass to Sin

Scripture: Romans 6:1–2 (NKJV)

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”

Devotion: Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “God will forgive me anyway”,and then went ahead and did what you already knew was wrong?

Let’s be honest. That thought has crossed many minds.

Grace is one of the most beautiful gifts God has given us. It covers us. It restores us. It lifts us when we fall. But somewhere along the way, some have turned grace into a permission slip instead of a lifeline.

For example, someone may knowingly stay in a sinful relationship, continue dishonest habits, or repeatedly entertain secret compromises;

all while saying, “God understands,” or “That’s what grace is for.” Instead of grace leading them to repentance, it becomes the cushion that makes disobedience feel less urgent.

That’s exactly what Paul addresses in Romans 6. He asks the question plainly: “Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?” In other words, should we keep sinning just so God can keep forgiving?

His response is strong and immediate: “Certainly not!”

Why? Because grace was never meant to make us comfortable in sin. Grace is meant to transform us. When we truly receive God’s grace, it doesn’t make us want to sin more; it makes us grateful enough to sin less.

The scripture goes further: “How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?” If we claim to have died to our old life, how can we keep returning to it casually? That’s not growth. That’s abuse.

Grace is not a pass to sin.

Grace is power to overcome it.

When we treat grace lightly, we dull our conviction. We silence the Holy Spirit. We slowly normalize what once troubled us. And that is dangerous ground.

But here’s the encouragement: if you recognize this in yourself, that’s conviction; not condemnation. Conviction is God’s way of pulling you closer, not pushing you away.

Stop using grace as an excuse to stay stuck. Let grace do what it was designed to do: free you, change you, and strengthen you.

Grace is not permission to remain the same.

It is empowerment to become different.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your grace that covers and restores me. Forgive me for the times I have treated Your grace casually or used it as an excuse to stay in sin. Help me to honor You with my choices and to take conviction seriously. Give me the strength to walk away from what does not please You. Let Your grace transform me, not just comfort me. I want to live in freedom and obedience.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
