🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ Title: What Do You Know Good

Scripture: James 4:17 ERV

“If you know the right thing to do, but you don’t do it, then that is sin.”

Devotion: Have you ever heard , “when you know better, do better?”

There are people in this world who truly don’t know what right is. Some were raised in environments where wrong was normalized; where disrespect, dishonesty, or disobedience were treated like everyday behavior.

But God, in His fairness and justice, does not hold you accountable for what you genuinely do not know. He holds you accountable for what you do know.

So the real question is: What do you know is good?

Let’s make this real…

You know your mama told you, “Don’t hang around those people; they’re trouble.”

But you went anyway.

Now you’re caught up in drama, your name is in mess you didn’t even start, and your peace is gone.

You knew you weren’t supposed to respond in anger.

You felt it in your spirit to stay quiet… but you said it anyway.

Now relationships are strained, and you’re wishing you could take those words back.

You knew that wasn’t the right way to handle your money.

You kept spending recklessly instead of being responsible.

Now you’re stressed, trying to figure out how to recover what discipline could have prevented.

You knew you shouldn’t entertain that conversation, that person, or that situation.

But you did anyway.

Now your heart is heavy, your mind is confused, and your focus is off.

You knew to pray first.

You knew to seek God before making that decision.

But you moved on your own.

Now you’re asking God to fix something He already warned you about.

And then… we act surprised.

We cry out, “Why is this happening to me?”

When deep down, we know… we chose what felt good instead of what was good.

This is how subtle sin can be.

Not always in the big, obvious moments—but in the small, everyday decisions where we ignore what God already placed in our heart.

Every time we choose our flesh over obedience, we step outside of God’s protection and into unnecessary consequences.

But here’s the grace:

God is not exposing this to condemn you—He’s revealing it to correct you.

You don’t have to keep repeating the same cycles.

You don’t have to keep learning lessons the hard way.

You already know enough to start doing better.

Now it’s time to walk in it.

Prayer:

Father God,

Thank You for being just, fair, and full of mercy. Thank You for not holding me accountable for what I didn’t know, but lovingly correcting me in what I do know. Lord, open my eyes even more to what is right and give me the strength to choose it, even when my flesh wants something different.

Help me to pause before I act, to listen to Your voice, and to obey what You’ve already placed in my heart. Break every cycle of disobedience and teach me discipline, wisdom, and self-control.

God, I don’t want to keep walking into consequences I could have avoided. I want to walk in alignment with You. Strengthen me to do what is right, even when it’s hard.

In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏
