šŸ•Šļø PRAY HERE Devotion šŸ•Šļø Ask in the Name of Jesus!

Scripture: John 14:13–14 KJV

ā€œAnd whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.ā€

Devotion

Have you ever wondered why some people say, ā€œIn the name of Jesus,ā€ when they pray?

Maybe you’ve heard somebody end a prayer with, ā€œIn Jesus’ name, Amen,ā€ your whole life and never really thought about why they say it.

Well, by the time you finish today’s devotion, you might be praying in the name of Jesus too! 😊

When I was growing up, we were taught that asking in Jesus’ name gave our requests power. Not only was I taught to pray this way, but I also witnessed miraculous results when people prayed in His name.

I’ve heard prayers for healing prayed in the name of Jesus.

I’ve seen people pray for protection in the name of Jesus.

I’ve heard people rebuke the enemy in the name of Jesus.

I’ve watched people pray over situations that looked impossible, call on the name of Jesus, and later testify that God moved!

There is POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS!

Hallelujah! šŸ™ŒšŸ½šŸ”„

But I don’t want you to just take my word for it.

Let’s look at today’s text.

Jesus Himself said:

ā€œAnd whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I doā€¦ā€

Whewwww! šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

Now let’s understand what Jesus is saying because this is important.

Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure. He had been physically present with them. They could see Him, talk to Him, ask Him questions, and watch Him perform miracles.

But He was preparing them to continue His work after He returned to the Father.

And He gave them something powerful:

His name.

To ask ā€œin my nameā€ is more than adding the words ā€œin Jesus’ nameā€ to the end of whatever we want.

That’s important because we don’t want to turn the name of Jesus into some magical phrase.

Jesus was teaching His followers to pray under His authority and in agreement with who He is and what He desires.

In other words:

ā€œJesus, I am bringing this request to the Father through YOU.ā€

My, my, my!

Think about authority for a minute.

If somebody walks into your workplace and says, ā€œI need you to do this,ā€ you may ask, ā€œWho told you that?ā€

But if they say, ā€œYour supervisor sent me and authorized this,ā€ now that request carries the authority of the person whose name they came in.

The authority isn’t in the messenger.

It’s in the name and authority behind them.

Whewwww!

Now think about prayer!

We don’t approach God boasting about our own authority.

ā€œLord, answer me because I’m such a good person.ā€

No.

ā€œAnswer me because I have a title.ā€

No.

ā€œAnswer me because I’ve been in church for 30 years.ā€

No!

We come in the name of JESUS! šŸ™ŒšŸ½

That’s why there is no room for spiritual arrogance in prayer.

Our confidence is not in how wonderful we are.

Our confidence is in who Jesus is!

But let’s keep reading because Jesus explains the purpose:

ā€œā€¦that the Father may be glorified in the Son.ā€

There it is!

The purpose of answered prayer is ultimately GOD’S GLORY.

So asking in Jesus’ name doesn’t mean:

ā€œJesus, give me absolutely anything my flesh wants because I said Your name afterward.ā€

šŸ˜‚ No!

If I’m praying for something sinful…

If I’m praying from greed…

If I’m asking God to help me hurt somebody…

If I’m asking Him to bless something completely contrary to His Word…

I cannot stamp ā€œIN JESUS’ NAMEā€ on it and make it God’s will.

Whewww! šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

His name carries His character.

His name carries His authority.

His name carries His will.

His name carries His purpose.

And that’s why learning God’s Word makes our prayers stronger too.

The more you know Jesus, the more you understand how to pray according to His heart.

Now look at verse 14:

ā€œIf ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.ā€

Jesus repeated Himself!

Whenever I see something repeated in Scripture, I pay attention.

He wanted His disciples to understand:

You can call on Me.

And sisters and brothers, that Word didn’t lose its power because thousands of years have passed.

Jesus is still Jesus!

His name didn’t expire.

His authority didn’t weaken.

His power didn’t decrease.

WHEWWWW! šŸ™ŒšŸ½šŸ”„

We still pray in the name of Jesus today.

When you’re afraid:

Pray in the name of Jesus.

When your family needs help:

Pray in the name of Jesus.

When you need wisdom:

Pray in the name of Jesus.

When temptation is fighting you:

Call on Jesus!

When you need strength to do something you know God told you to do:

Ask in the name of Jesus.

When the enemy is attacking your mind and trying to convince you that your situation is hopeless:

JESUS!

Sometimes you don’t even have a long prayer.

Sometimes all you can get out is:

ā€œJESUS, HELP ME!ā€

And there is power in knowing who you’re calling on.

Whewwwww! šŸ™ŒšŸ½

Now, praying in Jesus’ name doesn’t mean every prayer will be answered exactly how we dictated it or on our timetable.

We still submit ourselves to God’s wisdom and will.

Sometimes His answer is yes.

Sometimes He tells us to wait.

Sometimes God answers differently because He knows something we don’t know.

But asking in Jesus’ name gives us confidence that we are not approaching the Father based upon our own goodness or power.

We are coming through Christ.

And that should change the way you pray.

Don’t pray defeated.

Don’t pray as though God can’t hear you.

Don’t pray as though your situation is greater than Jesus.

And don’t let the enemy convince you that prayer is powerless because you haven’t seen the answer yet.

KEEP PRAYING!

Pray God’s Word.

Pray with faith.

Pray according to His will.

Pray expecting God to hear you.

And when you finish…

ASK IN THE NAME OF JESUS!

šŸ™ŒšŸ½šŸ‘šŸ½šŸ”„

Somebody reading this has been carrying something around that you need to stop worrying about and start praying about.

You’ve discussed it with everybody.

You’ve thought about it all night.

You’ve imagined every possible outcome.

You’ve tried to fix it yourself.

Now take it to Jesus!

There is power in His name.

Not because His name is a magic formula…

but because there is authority in the PERSON whose name you are calling!

WHEWWWW!

So today, before you leave this devotion, think of something you genuinely need God to do.

Something according to His will.

Something that would bring Him glory.

Something you cannot accomplish without His help.

And pray about it.

Don’t just read about prayer today.

PRAY!

And when you ask…

Ask in the name of Jesus! šŸ™ŒšŸ½

Reflect & Respond

What have you been trying to handle without bringing it sincerely before God?

And when you pray, do you understand whose authority you’re trusting?

Today, don’t merely attach Jesus’ name to the end of your prayer out of habit.

Know the name you’re calling.

Know His character.

Know His Word.

Know His authority.

And believe that Jesus is still able to do what you cannot do.

Take your request before the Father today…

in the name of Jesus.

Prayer :

Father God, I come before You today in the name of Jesus.

Thank You for giving me access to You through Your Son. Thank You that I do not have to approach You depending on my own goodness, strength, accomplishments, or authority.

My confidence is in Jesus.

Lord, teach me how to pray according to Your will. Let my requests agree with Your Word, Your character, and Your purpose for my life.

Forgive me for the times I have worried more than I prayed. Forgive me for trying to handle things in my own strength when I could have brought them to You.

Today I bring You every burden, every need, every unanswered question, every concern for my family, and every situation beyond my control.

Give me wisdom where I need wisdom.

Strength where I am weak.

Protection where I am vulnerable.

Healing where healing is needed.

Provision according to Your will.

Deliverance where there is bondage.

And most importantly, let every answer and every testimony bring glory back to You.

Help me never use the name of Jesus casually, selfishly, or without understanding. Teach me to know Him, obey Him, trust Him, and confidently pray through His authority.

I believe there is still POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS!

And I ask these things believing and trusting You…

In the name of Jesus, Amen! šŸ™šŸ½šŸ™ŒšŸ½šŸ’™
