🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ Hold Your Peace & Let God Fight for You

Scripture: Exodus 14:13–14 KJV

“And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

Devotion :

Being quiet and NOT responding to everything is sometimes one of the hardest things to do.

Have you ever known somebody who just has to respond to EVERYTHING?!

Lol! 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

They have to explain.

Defend.

Correct.

Respond.

Get the last word.

Make sure everybody understands THEIR SIDE.

And if we’re truthful, sometimes that person is US! 😂

God probably looks at us sometimes and says:

“Okay…are you done?”

😂🤦🏽‍♀️

Because sometimes we’re so busy talking, reacting, worrying, fussing, trying to fix everything, and telling God what needs to happen that we haven’t gotten quiet enough to hear what HE is telling us to do.

In all seriousness, we can get in the way of our own help when we refuse to “be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10.

Sometimes you have to…

LET GOD BE GOD.

We often find ourselves in situations that ONLY HE can get us out of.

And a person who is constantly talking can’t hear instructions very well.

So here the children of Israel are in a GOD-SIZED SITUATION…

And they’re yapping! 😂🤦🏽‍♀️

Fussing.

Complaining.

Talking about what they should’ve done.

Talking about Egypt.

Talking about Moses.

Talking about dying.

Meanwhile, Moses tells them:

“Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD…”

In other words:

STOP PANICKING.

STOP TALKING YOURSELF INTO FEAR.

STAND FIRM AND WATCH GOD.

Whewww! 🙌🏽🔥

And thank God they had a Moses with them!

While everybody else was looking at Pharaoh and panicking, Moses was speaking FAITH.

That’ll preach all by itself.

CHECK YOUR CIRCLE.

When you’re already scared, you don’t need five more scared people around you telling you why everything is about to fall apart. 😂

You need somebody who has REAL FAITH IN GOD.

Somebody who can pull you back down when you’re panicking and say:

“CALM DOWN.”

“LET’S PRAY.”

“GOD HASN’T FORGOTTEN YOU.”

“DON’T DO ANYTHING FOOLISH.”

“LET’S WAIT AND SEE WHAT GOD DOES.”

Everybody connected to you shouldn’t help you panic.

Somebody needs enough faith to help you STAND.

🙌🏽

Because when we’re afraid, we don’t always think wisely.

And sometimes our thoughts reveal how little we’re considering the nature of God.

Think about Israel.

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD GOD DELIVER THEM FROM EGYPT JUST TO LET PHARAOH TAKE THEM RIGHT BACK?!

Come on!

God had already demonstrated His power.

He had already brought them out.

He had already shown them that He was with them.

And now because they couldn’t figure out how He was going to handle the Red Sea, they assumed there wasn’t a way out.

JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN’T SEE GOD’S PLAN DOESN’T MEAN GOD DOESN’T HAVE ONE.

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

God is wiser and more powerful than we sometimes ACT like He is.

Like our elders used to say:

“I DON’T BELIEVE HE BROUGHT ME THIS FAR TO LEAVE ME.”

🙏🏽🙌🏽 HALLELUJAH!

Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of that before we start panicking.

“God brought me through THAT.”

“God opened THAT door.”

“God provided THEN.”

“God kept me BEFORE.”

So why am I acting like He’s suddenly stopped being God NOW?!

My, my, my! 🙌🏽🔥

And sometimes holding your peace is very practical.

Somebody at work may be lying on you, trying to provoke you, and making you look bad.

Everything in you wants to send that email while you’re angry and COPY EVERYBODY! 😂

But sometimes wisdom says:

DON’T SEND IT YET.

Pray.

Calm down.

Get the facts.

Let God show you how to respond.

Or maybe somebody keeps trying to pull you into an argument.

They send the text.

You type your response.

Delete it.

Type another one.

Delete that too. 😂

Sometimes your victory is realizing:

I DON’T HAVE TO ATTEND EVERY ARGUMENT I’M INVITED TO.

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Now, holding your peace doesn’t mean never speaking up, setting boundaries, reporting wrongdoing, or taking necessary action.

Sometimes God will tell you to MOVE.

But there is a difference between God-directed action and fear-driven reaction.

And in Exodus 14, Israel needed to stop panicking long enough to follow God’s direction.

Then Moses says something in verse 14 that I LOVE:

“The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

OOOOOOEW WEEEEE! 🙌🏽🔥🔥🔥

THE LORD SHALL FIGHT FOR YOU.

And what did they have to do?

HOLD THEIR PEACE.

They didn’t have to defeat Pharaoh.

They didn’t have to figure out how to part the Red Sea.

They didn’t have to build a bridge.

They didn’t have to help God come up with a plan.

THEY JUST NEEDED TO TRUST AND OBEY HIM.

And then…

🌊 GOD PARTED THE RED SEA!

What looked impossible opened up right in front of them.

The people crossed over.

And the enemy that had been chasing them was defeated.

THIS IS A GOOD PLACE TO PAUSE AND PRAISE GOD! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽🔥

Because sometimes while we’re trying to figure out how we’re going to fix everything…

GOD ALREADY HAS A RED SEA PLAN.

You don’t have to help God be God.

You don’t have to fight every battle.

You don’t have to answer every accusation.

You don’t have to defend yourself to everybody.

You don’t have to know how He’s going to do it.

Sometimes your assignment is simply:

FEAR NOT.

STAND FIRM.

HOLD YOUR PEACE.

AND LET GOD FIGHT FOR YOU.

Reflect & Respond

What situation are you talking, worrying, reacting, or trying to control that you need to place back into God’s hands?

Before you respond today, ask:

“DOES GOD WANT ME TO SPEAK; OR DOES HE WANT ME TO HOLD MY PEACE?”

If He tells you to be still…

BE STILL.

If He gives you instructions…

OBEY THEM.

And if the battle belongs to Him…

LET GOD FIGHT IT.

Prayer :

Father God, help me hold my peace. When fear makes me want to react, remind me to be still and trust You. Give me wisdom to know when to speak and when to remain quiet. Help me follow Your instructions instead of my emotions. Lord, I trust You to fight for me and handle what I cannot handle myself.
