Scripture: Romans 1:20â31 (NIV)
âSlanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.â
Devotion: There are moments when I look around and honestly wonderâŚ
What happened to the world?
Why do so many people seem so unkind, selfish, hateful, and flat-out God-less?
Even those who claim to be âchurch-going Christiansâ are slandering instead of praying⌠walking in pride instead of humility⌠rebelling instead of obeying God.
My heart truly weeps because God loves us all so deeply; and I know for a fact that this is not how He desires His children to behave or live. We should all strive daily to be like Him.
These ungodly characteristics do not shine the light of Christ. They donât draw people to God; they push them away.
Until we wake up, tell the truth, and hold ourselves accountable, the wrongs cannot be corrected.
This world rejects God until life hits them with something their strength, their status, or their money cannot fix. Then suddenly, they want the God they ignored, or prayer.
But hereâs the thing: You donât have to be counted among them.
Letâs look at todayâs scripture. Paul is speaking to the Christians in Rome, calling out the behavior that dishonors God.
When we read it today, it sounds just like our current world, and sadly even some parts of the church too.
Romans 1:30â31 tells us:
âSlanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.â
We donât like to talk about scriptures like this because they sound harsh. Nobody wants to admit that people actually behave like this. But ignoring the truth keeps us from correcting the truth.
Who is going to say something?
Who is going to shine light in dark places?
Who will love the lost enough to help them find their way?
Thank God we still have servants like Paul : leaders, believers, ministries, and churches who are truly pointing people back to Christ. But at the end of the day, like we discussed in a recent devotion, we all have to make the choice to save ourselves.
God is willing.
God is ready.
God desires to transform our lives.
But we must be humble enough to admit where weâve fallen and courageous enough to turn back to Him.
Letâs choose God.
Letâs choose truth.
Letâs not be part of the world that rejected Him.
Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, open our eyes to see where we have drifted from Your will. Give us the courage to acknowledge the truth about ourselves, repent, and walk in the light of Your Word. Help us not to be counted among those who reject You, but among those who honor You, love You, and obey You. Purify our hearts, strengthen our walk, and use us to bring clarity, love, and truth to a world that desperately needs You.
In Jesusâ name, Amen.
