🕊️PRAY HERE Devotion🕊️ “Fear Cancels Out Faith”

Scripture: Matthew 14:30–31 (NIV)

“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’”

Devotion: Life will put us in moments that shake us. Moments that make our chest tight, our palms sweaty, and our mind race with a thousand “what ifs.”

Sometimes fear doesn’t show up as a scream ; it shows up as a whisper:

“What if this goes wrong?”

“What if I can’t handle this?”

“What if God doesn’t come through for me?”

Fear is a powerful emotion, and if we’re honest, we all face things that feel scary sometimes.

Think about the fear of sitting in a doctor’s office waiting for test results…

Think about the fear of sitting in a courtroom waiting for the judge to speak…

Think about the fear of stepping intotrue obedience; knowing God is telling you to move, but everything in you is trembling…

Fear can paralyze you.

Fear can silence you.

Fear can make you forget everything God already brought you through.

But here’s the truth: Fear cancels out faith when we let it make us doubt God.

In today’s scripture, Peter was walking on the water ;actually doing the impossible ; until he allowed fear to take over. The Bible says, “But when he saw the wind, he was afraid…”

He didn’t sink because the water was too strong.

He didn’t sink because Jesus wasn’t close.

He sank because he stopped looking at Jesus and started looking at the storm.

That’s exactly what fear does.

Fear shifts your focus.

Fear magnifies the problem and minimizes your God.

Fear blinds you to what faith had you walking on just moments before.

Jesus didn’t let Peter drown ; He immediately reached out His hand. That shows us that even when fear tries to swallow us, Jesus is still right there ready to pull us back up. But He also asked Peter a question that we all need to consider:

“Why did you doubt?”

Most of the time, fear doesn’t show up because God is weak ; but because we stop believing He is strong.

Let today be a reminder that fear and faith cannot live in the same space.

You must choose which one will guide you.

When fear says, “Look at the storm,”

Faith says, “Look at Jesus.”

When fear says, “You’re sinking,”

Faith says, “You’re covered.”

When fear says, “This is too much,”

Faith says, “God is with me.”

You may not control the wind, but you can control your focus.

Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, help me choose faith over fear.

When storms rise, help me keep my eyes on You and not on what is shaking around me. Strengthen my heart, settle my mind, and remind me of every miracle, every blessing, and every moment You have pulled me through. I rebuke fear, doubt, and anxiety, and I receive Your peace, confidence, and courage. Lord, be my anchor when life gets overwhelming. I trust You completely. Amen.
