🕊️ PRAY HERE DEVOTION 🕊️
Don’t Hide Your Light

Scripture: Mark 4:21 (NKJV)

“Also He said to them, ‘Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Is it not to be set on a lampstand?’”

Devotion: Have you ever noticed how some people shine brightly for God when they’re around other believers, but become quiet and reserved about their faith everywhere else?

In church, they worship freely. They talk about God openly. They pray boldly and encourage others with Scripture. But when they step into the workplace, a classroom, or certain social settings, their faith suddenly becomes hidden. They avoid mentioning God, shy away from standing on His Word, and try to blend in with the crowd.

In many ways, that is the very picture Jesus was describing in today’s scripture.

He asked a simple question: “Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed?” Of course not. The whole purpose of a lamp is to give light. A lamp is placed on a stand so that everyone in the room can see.

Light was never meant to be hidden.

When Jesus spoke about this, He wasn’t just talking about a physical lamp. He was speaking about the light that comes from knowing Him: the truth, the faith, the character, and the witness that believers carry.

If God has placed His light in you, it wasn’t meant to stay confined to church walls.

Your workplace needs that light.

Your family needs that light.

Your friends need that light.

Even strangers you encounter need that light.

That doesn’t mean forcing conversations or trying to appear perfect. Sometimes letting your light shine simply means living with integrity, speaking truth when it matters, showing kindness when others choose cruelty, and not being ashamed to acknowledge God in your life.

Light naturally exposes darkness and guides people toward clarity. When believers hide their light, the world loses one more visible example of God’s goodness.

Jesus asked that question because the answer is obvious: light has a purpose.

So don’t hide what God placed inside of you. Don’t dim your faith to make others comfortable. The light in you was given to shine; not just among believers, but everywhere God sends you.

Let your light do what it was created to do.

Prayer: Father, thank You for placing Your light in my life. Help me not to hide my faith or be ashamed to acknowledge You in every area of my life. Give me courage to live in a way that reflects Your truth, Your love, and Your character. Let my actions, my words, and my choices shine so that others may see Your goodness. Use my life as a light wherever You place me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
