🕊️ PRAY HERE DEVOTION 🕊️ God Has to Order Your Steps to Be Good

Scripture: Psalm 37:23 (NKJV)

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”

Devotion: Have you ever wondered why some people seem to walk a steady path while others keep finding themselves in the same troubles over and over again?

The truth is, you don’t just wake up one day being “good” without some kind of blueprint or influence guiding you. Whether we realize it or not, something has ordered our steps. It could be the experiences we’ve had in life, the people we grew up around, the examples we followed, or even the voices we chose to listen to. Something has shaped the direction we walk.

In today’s text, David tells us something powerful: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” David didn’t write that from theory. He wrote it from experience.

Think about David’s life. When he was a young shepherd boy, it was God who ordered his steps to face Goliath. Everyone else saw a giant that couldn’t be defeated, but David trusted God’s direction and stepped forward in faith. That moment wasn’t random; it was God ordering his steps and preparing him for the leadership ahead. Even through David’s mistakes and difficult seasons, God continued guiding his path, correcting him, and shaping him.

David knew firsthand that when God orders your steps, your life moves in a direction that produces something good.

Now think about times in your own life when you tried to be good but still failed. Maybe you had good intentions. Maybe you tried to do the right thing in your own strength. But without God guiding the process, things didn’t work out the way you hoped.

What if you had let God order it?

What if you had allowed Him to guide every step, every decision, every plan, and even your thoughts? Things might have turned out differently.

The truth is, everything truly good comes from God. Scripture reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from above. That means when God is leading, goodness follows. His direction produces wisdom, peace, protection, and purpose.

We don’t become good simply by trying harder. We become good when we allow the One who is good to guide us.

So instead of trying to figure everything out on your own, invite God to order your steps. Let Him influence the path you walk, the decisions you make, and the direction your life takes.

When God orders your steps, goodness isn’t something you chase; it becomes the natural result of walking with Him.

Prayer: Father, thank You for caring about the direction of my life. I don’t want to walk according to my own understanding. Order my steps, guide my decisions, and influence my thoughts so that my life reflects Your goodness. Help me trust Your direction even when I don’t see the full path ahead. I surrender my plans to You and ask You to lead me in the way that is good.
