Scripture: Psalm 37:1â3 (KJV)
âFret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.â
Devotion: How often have you seen people do wrong and seem to get away with it? They lie, cheat, steal, cut corners, and somehow still appear to be âwinning.â Many people mistake material things for blessings; but having money, cars, or status does not automatically mean someone is blessed by God. Some people have things because of corruption, deception, and sinful gain. Basically, from doing wrong.
We see this all the time. Movies and real-life stories show drug dealers flashing money, driving expensive cars, and luring struggling young people into illegal lifestyles by making it look glamorous. Others steal, manipulate, or step on people to get ahead. Meanwhile, you may be doing everything you know is right: working honestly, serving God, living with integrity, and wondering why you donât have what they have. It can feel unfair.
But todayâs scripture tells us do not worry yourself because of evildoers and do not be envious. Why? Because God sees everything. Their success is temporary. Their way is not sustainable. Psalm 37 reminds us that those who operate outside of Godâs will will eventually be cut down; whether we witness it or not.
Instead of watching them, God tells us in todayâs scripture, to trust in the Lord and keep doing good. That is our assignment. Faithfulness has a reward, even when it doesnât look immediate.
A powerful example of this is found in Genesis 31. For twenty years, Laban cheated Jacob: changing his wages, lying to him, and taking advantage of him. Jacob stayed faithful, worked honestly, and trusted God. When the time was right, God stepped in and said to Laban, âTake heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.â God restored to Jacob everything that had been stolen from him, and more.
This is proof that Godâs Word is true. He will defend the righteous. He will repay faithfully. You donât have to scheme, compete, or envy. Stay obedient. Stay faithful. Stay with God. He sees you, and He will bless you in His perfect time.
Prayer: Father God, help me to trust Your Word even when I donât understand what I see. Remove envy, worry, and comparison from my heart. Strengthen me to continue doing good and walking uprightly before You. I believe that You are faithful and that You will reward righteousness in Your perfect timing. I put my trust fully in You.
In Jesusâ name, Amen.
