Scripture: James 1:4 (NKJV)
âBut let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.â
Devotion: Besides faith being one of our biggest struggles, patience is right up there at the top of the list. With technology constantly evolving, AI, same-day delivery, fast food, and shortcuts for almost everything, we donât want to wait for anything. Waiting feels uncomfortable, unnecessary, and frustrating to our flesh. But patience is not optional, it is a fruit of the Spirit, and it is essential to our growth.
Hereâs the part we donât like: in order to develop patience, we have to go through trials. There is no other way around it. Patience is not learned in comfort; it is developed in pressure.
James was teaching believers how to properly wait. He told them to count it all joy, knowing that the testing of their faith produces patience. Then he says something powerful, let patience do her perfect work. In other words, donât rush the process. Donât interfere. Donât quit halfway through. Allow patience to finish what it started so that you can grow, mature, be complete, and lack nothing.
Letâs be honest; most of us hate waiting. If a package is even one day late, weâre emailing customer service, tracking the order, and asking questions. If food takes too long at a restaurant, we get irritated. If God doesnât answer fast enough, we start questioning, worrying, or trying to fix things ourselves. Our flesh does notwant to wait.
But trials are a part of life. We all experience valleys, unexpected challenges, delays, and moments where all we can do is wait patiently on the Lord. If we rush the process, we delay our maturity. If we quit too soon, we miss what patience was producing in us.
We will never be complete if we refuse to let patience do her job. Growth takes time. Healing takes time. Transformation takes time. God is not slow; He is intentional. If youâre in a waiting season, donât give up. Patience is working for you, not against you.
Prayer: Father, help me not to rush what You are using to grow me. Teach me how to wait with trust, humility, and faith. Strengthen me in seasons of delay and remind me that patience is producing something good in me. I surrender my timing to You and trust Your perfect plan.
In Jesusâ name, Amen.

Amen! This is challenging and life giving!
