Scripture: John 3:20 (NIV)
âEveryone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.â
Devotion: There are people who truly believe they are fine just the way they are. They see no need to change, repent, or surrender anything to God. Whatâs interesting is how uncomfortable they become around believers who actually fear God and live a surrendered life.
You didnât say anything wrong.
You didnât point a finger.
You didnât call them out.
Yet your presence alone made them uneasy.
Why? Because a life fully submitted to God exposes the contrast without ever trying to. When someone is playing with God: treating Him casually, bending truth, excusing sin; they often become intimidated by people who take God seriously. Not because youâre judging them, but because your obedience highlights their compromise.
The Bible tells us that people who are not living in truth avoid the light, not because the light is harsh, but because it reveals what they would rather ignore. A surrendered life shines quietly, but powerfully. It doesnât argue. It doesnât boast. It simply lives differently.
Those who are comfortable in sin will often call your obedience âtoo much,â your discipline âextreme,â and your faith âunnecessary.â But what theyâre really reacting to is conviction; not condemnation.
If this has happened to you, be encouraged. Youâre not doing anything wrong by choosing God wholeheartedly. Keep walking in truth. Keep honoring God. Let your life speak. Some will resist it, but others will be drawn to it, and one day, that same contrast may lead them to repentance.
Prayer: Father, help me remain faithful even when my obedience makes others uncomfortable. Give me grace to walk in truth without pride and humility without compromise. Let my life reflect Your holiness and love. Strengthen me to fear You above all else and trust that You will handle every reaction.
In Jesusâ name, Amen.
