Scripture: Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
âBut seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.â
Devotion: I think we are naturally programmed to want to skip steps and go straight to what we want. Growing up, we couldnât just sit down and eat dinner. We had to wash our hands, say grace, and sit properly at the table. And we definitely couldn't have dessert until we finished our food; and I wanted that peach cobbler, lol!
Todayâs scripture reminds us that there is a proper order that ensures blessings. There was almost nothing I couldnât get from my grandparents; not because I asked, but because I honored, served, and obeyed them. Sometimes they would bless me without me saying a word. My siblings would be confused and a little jealous, asking, âMan, how did you get that?â Well, while yâall were outside playing and having fun, I was inside serving and helping around the house. After I did what I was supposed to do, then I went out to play.
Have you ever heard someone say, âWhen I get myself together, Iâm gonna get savedâ? Many people want to chase money, material things, worldly pleasures (all the things) and then seek God later. This kind of thinking is exactly why so many people miss out on their biggest blessings.
Jesus makes it clear in Matthew 6:33: âSeek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.â He was teaching believers the power of prioritizing God. When God and His righteousness become your main focus, He takes care of everything else.
When we put God first, we wonât even have to ask for our needs to be met; He will simply provide. Obedience, faithfulness, and commitment come with rewards. Once I applied this principle to my own life, God began continuously adding blessings and meeting my needs in ways I didnât expect.
Rearrange your priorities today. Put God first, and watch how He causes you to prosper and be blessed.
Prayer: Father God, help me to put You first in every area of my life. Teach me to trust Your order and not rush ahead of You. Align my priorities with Your will so that I may receive everything You have prepared for me. I choose obedience, faithfulness, and righteousness today.
In Jesusâ name, Amen.
