Scripture: Isaiah 38:2â5
âThen Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, and said, âRemember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight.â And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
And the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, âGo and tell Hezekiah, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years.ââ
Devotion: How often do we settle for things, circumstances, or outcomes without praying about it?
A lack of faith causes us not to even consider prayer as something that can truly change a situation; so we just accept it. The doctor says you have (fill in the blank), and we accept it. We may ask others to pray for us out of pity, but not with faith to reverse the decision.
Whatever you are facing, God can change the outcome. Just as the heart of the king is in His hands (Proverbs 21:1), so is the heart of the judge, the recruiter, the doctor, and every decision-maker involved in your situation.
But the real question is:HAVE YOU PRAYED ABOUT IT?
Letâs take a powerful lesson from King Hezekiah, who prayed one of the most effective prayers recorded in Scripture.
In Isaiah 38, Hezekiah received a word from the Lord through the prophet Isaiah. The message was clear and final: âGet your house in order, because you are going to die.â
That word came directly from God. Hezekiah could have accepted it in sorrow; buthe did not.
Ask yourself, what did Hezekiah do?
I love his response because it teaches us exactly how to pray when our backs are against the wall. Verse 2 says, Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed. Hallelujah! Hezekiah said within himself, âOh no, I will not accept this.âHe knew the power of God.
He reminded the Lord of his faithfulness, obedience, and loyalty. In verse 3 he said, âLord, remember how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.â
Talk your talk, Hezekiah!
Do you have anything you can remind God of: your obedience, your sacrifices, your commitment, your faithfulness? Ask the Lord to REMEMBER.
Godâs response is powerful: âI have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears.âAnd not only that; God changed the outcome. He added fifteen more years to Hezekiahâs life.
Praise God!
Hezekiahâs sincere prayer touched the heart of God and caused Him to intervene. Pray a sincere prayer of faith and truth about whatever situation you need turned around; and expect divine intervention.
Prayer: Father God, forgive me for the times I accepted outcomes without bringing them to You in prayer. Today, I choose faith over fear and prayer over settling. You see my tears, You hear my prayers, and You are able to change every situation. Help me to pray boldly, sincerely, and expectantly. I trust You to intervene in my life according to Your perfect will.
In Jesusâ name, Amen.
