Scripture: Matthew 7:13–14 (KJV)
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Devotion: Have you ever heard, “Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future?”
Or maybe, “The blind leading the blind; and they all fall in a ditch?”
It is so important when choosing who to follow and travel with in life.
Bad friends and wrong connections can lead to unnecessary suffering. Following the wrong people will have you traveling down the wrong road, thinking you’re going somewhere good.
But you’re not.
Today’s scripture makes it plain.
The wrong road is WIDE and EASY.
Hmmmm…
It’s wide because it’s crowded. Everybody is on that road. People love easy. Easy choices. Easy fun. Easy money. Easy decisions.
That’s why so many people end up in trouble.
Because it’s easy to get in… but hard to get out.
Some people are programmed to follow the crowd. If everybody is doing it, it must be okay… right?
No. No. No.
That is a trick and a trap.
That wide road leads to destruction.
Now let’s talk about the other road.
The road that leads to life is narrow and hard. Not as many people are on it. It requires discipline. It requires saying no. It requires going against the grain.
But anything worth having is worth the sweat and tears that may come along the journey.
God will lead you down that narrow road: the road of life, peace, and purpose.
And here’s the truth…
You and I cannot stop the world from doing what they’re doing on that road to destruction. But we also don’t have to follow them either.
If they jump off a bridge, I’m still going to stay rooted in God and follow His path.
If you’re honest, you can think back to times you regret going along with your friends. You knew better. You felt it in your spirit. You should have said no… but you went anyway.
And you paid for it.
That’s what happens when you travel with the wrong people.
So if you are standing at a fork in the road today…
Choose the narrow way.
Travel with the wise few, not the careless crowd.
Save yourself from destruction.
God bless you.
Prayer: Father, help me to choose the right path even when it is not popular. Give me wisdom in choosing who I walk with and who I listen to. Strengthen me to walk the narrow road that leads to life. Remove any influence in my life that is leading me away from You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
