Scripture: Acts 9:10-12 (ERV)
“In Damascus there was a follower named Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, ‘Ananias!’ He answered, ‘Here I am, Lord.’ The Lord said to him, ‘Get up and go to the street called Straight. Find the house of Judas. Ask for a man named Saul from the city of Tarsus. Right now he is praying. Saul has seen a vision in which a man named Ananias comes and lays his hands on him so that he can see again.’”
Devotion: There is always a reason when we are asked to do something, whether the reason is good or bad.
For example, someone may ask you to volunteer at a community charity event because they know a large crowd is expected and they need extra hands to serve the people.
Your participation has a purpose.
Now let’s take that a step higher.
Obedience to God carries even more weight because it is connected to both purpose and promise.
Whew!
Let me give you a current example.
The Lord has instructed PRAY HERE to host an upcoming in-person prayer gathering.
Our obedience to that assignment could be the very promise someone has been praying for.
Someone may receive healing.
Someone may be delivered.
Someone may give their life to Christ.
Someone may find hope again.
God may have designed for their breakthrough to happen at that gathering.
But what if I had said no?
Whew!
That means someone else’s blessing could have been delayed.
Someone’s answered prayer could have been postponed.
Or they might have missed that divine appointment altogether.
Whoa…
That’s heavy.
Now let’s look at today’s scripture.
God chose a faithful disciple named Ananias.
He gave him a very specific assignment.
Go to Saul.
Lay your hands on him.
Pray for him.
The Lord also told Ananias something amazing.
Saul had already been given a vision that a man named Ananias was coming to lay hands on him so he could receive his sight.
Glory to God!
Do you see what happened?
God had already made Saul a promise.
Now He was asking Ananias to be the vessel that fulfilled it.
My, my, my!
Ananias’ obedience fulfilled the promise Saul had already seen in a vision.
Not only that, his obedience helped launch
God’s purpose for Saul’s life.
Can you imagine if Ananias had said,
“No, Lord. Find somebody else.”
God’s will would still have been accomplished because no one can stop His plan.
But Saul’s healing and transformation could have been hindered or delayed while God prepared another willing servant.
Whew!
That should make all of us stop and think.
How many times has God impressed upon your heart to pray for someone…
…and you ignored it?
To call someone…
…and you put it off?
To encourage someone…
…and you talked yourself out of it?
To give someone twenty dollars…
…and you kept walking?
What if your obedience was the very answer they had been praying for?
What if God promised to provide for them…
…and He chose you to fulfill that promise?
Hallelujah!
Now think about your own life.
Have you ever had someone unexpectedly call you with an encouraging word?
Have you ever received exactly what you needed at just the right moment?
Have you ever had someone pray for you, and it confirmed something only you and God knew?
Their obedience fulfilled a promise to you.
Glory to God for His obedient servants!
Today, you may be someone’s Ananias.
Do not underestimate the importance of your obedience.
God is looking for willing vessels.
People who simply say,
“Here I am, Lord.”
Because when we obey God, our obedience often becomes someone else’s answered prayer.
Before we leave today, ask yourself this question:
Is someone’s promise waiting on my obedience?
God bless you!
Prayer: Father God, thank You for trusting me enough to use me in Your work. Forgive me for the times I have delayed or ignored Your voice. Give me a willing heart that quickly says, “Here I am, Lord.” Help me understand that my obedience is bigger than me. It may be connected to someone else’s healing, encouragement, provision, deliverance, or salvation. Make me sensitive to Your Spirit and faithful to every assignment You give me, no matter how small it seems. Lord, let me be a vessel You can trust to fulfill Your purpose and help bring Your promises to pass in the lives of others. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏 🕊️
