Scripture: Matthew 28:20
âTeaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.â
Devotion: I remember going to DeSoto Caverns for a field trip in 2nd grade. I was excited and scared at the same time. They explained some things about the cave before we went in, and my mama knew I was scared. She grabbed my hand and said, âItâs okay. Just keep holding my hand.â
So when we started walking in the darkest parts of the cave and I could not see, I was calm because I knew my mama was with me and she was holding my hand.
When we find ourselves in darkness or rough times, we must remember that Jesus is with us. Just as we were instructed on how to make it through the cave on that field trip, we have instructions to follow to journey through this life. As long as we follow His instructions and know that He is with us, we can make it through anything.
On that mount in Galilee, Jesus was giving them both instructions and assurance.
There are two things in this verse that are very vital: âteaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.â Observe in this verse means to comply and obey. This current world struggles with obedience and complying with laws more than anything.
Without obedience to His instructions, there is no promise fulfilled or protection. We cannot neglect to obey what He said and still expect to receive the same results He promised.
The second part of this text says, âI am with you always, even until the endâŚâ
Why do you think He gave that statement of comfort?
Jesus knew that this commission would not be easy and that there would be uncertain and challenging times. In those moments, we must remember that He is with us until the end of the age.
That thought alone should give you hope and confidence to keep going.
If Jesus is with you, nothing can harm you or take you out. He will whisper in your ear and tell you what to say when you witness to others. You will be protected and guided by Him.
Just as the disciples had success, I have had much success, and so will you.
Take all 3 of the âWhy We Witnessâ devotions, apply them, and be the best witness for Jesus you can be :-)
Keep holding up the blood-stained banner and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Somebody will be in your path today that needs it.
God bless you!
Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Word and for the comfort of knowing that You are always with us. Thank You for the instructions You have given us to guide our lives. Lord, help us to not only hear Your Word but to obey it fully. Strengthen us in moments of fear, uncertainty, and darkness, and remind us that we are never alone. Give us boldness, wisdom, and the right words to say as we witness to others. Let Your presence lead us, protect us, and produce fruit through us. We trust You to be with us until the very end.
In Jesusâ name, Amen.
