🕊️PRAY HERE Devotion🕊️ “Where Is Your Heart”

Scripture: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” — 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (NIV)

Devotion:

When it comes to compassion, there are four kinds of people:

  1. Those who only have compassion for their loved ones and family ; the people in their own home.

  2. Those who have compassion for strangers and people outside their homes, but not for those close to them.

  3. Those who have no compassion at all.

  4. And lastly, those who are like Paul, and have compassion for everyone.

How can you care deeply about a stranger on the internet or a coworker being hurt, sick, or depressed, but not care about a member of your own household going through the same thing? How can we only show concern when something happens to someone we love, but overlook others who are struggling in the same way?

Believe it or not, our level of compassion is tested very often.

Paul understood that the comfort we receive from God equips us to comfort others. In today’s scripture, we are reminded that God is the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. He comforts us in our troubles so that we, in turn, can comfort others.

Does this mean you must go around giving every hurting person a hug? No. But it does mean you should have a heart that cares enough to pray for all people and help those you can.

Prayerfully, you will begin to see things more clearly and keep a spiritual check on your heart to ensure that your compassion is not selective. God comforts us so that we can be a comfort to others ; He is our best example.

Just as Paul realized, God gives to us all so that we may share it.

Prayer: Father, thank You for being the God of all comfort and compassion. Help me to have a heart like Yours ; one that loves and cares for all people, not just those close to me. Teach me to extend the same mercy, patience, and kindness that You show me every day. Keep my heart pure, tender, and full of Your love so that I may comfort others as You have comforted me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Amen! this made me think about all the times in which God has comforted me, and because I allow God to make deposits into me, I then have something to give to others. BUT on the flip side, my heart began to ache because I began to think about those who FEEL like God has never comforted them or shown them compassion. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
