What Are You Hungry For?

Scripture: Matthew 5:6 (NIV)

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

Devotion: What are you really hungry for?

Did you know that the very things you crave and chase might be the reason you still feel unsatisfied?

When we crave the wrong things, it never truly satisfies us. In fact, it can make the craving worse. Think about sugar. The more sugar you consume, the more your body wants it. You never feel like you’ve had enough, and over time, it causes damage. What feels good in the moment slowly works against you.

The same thing happens spiritually.

When we hunger for attention, validation, money, status, or temporary pleasures, we may get small moments of satisfaction…..but they never last. The craving comes back stronger. And often, it leaves damage behind.

I’m not trying to sound churchy or sell you a dream, but when I read Matthew 5:6, I had to pause and thank God. This scripture is very true. No matter what’s happening around me, I genuinely feel satisfied and blessed because I truly hunger and thirst after righteousness.

Jesus says those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. Righteousness means right standing with God ; living in alignment with His will, desiring what pleases Him, seeking His way over our own. When your appetite shifts toward God, something changes. You’re no longer chasing everything; you’re anchored in something.

Craving the right things puts everything in proper placement. It quiets the chaos. It stabilizes your emotions. It brings satisfaction that doesn’t fade overnight.

Take a moment and analyze what you chase, focus on, and crave.

If you crave approval from people, you will never feel fully accepted. There will always be someone who disagrees, overlooks you, or misunderstands you.

If you crave attention or applause, you will constantly need more of it to feel secure ; and when it’s not there, you’ll feel empty.

But when you hunger and thirst for God: for His righteousness, His presence, His approval ; your heart finds rest. Your mind settles. Your soul feels full.

Being hungry and thirsty for God is not restrictive. It is freeing. It is healthy. It satisfies in a way nothing else can.

This is good for you.

Prayer: Father, help me to examine what I am truly hungry for. Shift my cravings away from things that leave me empty and toward what satisfies my soul. Teach me to hunger and thirst for righteousness and to desire what pleases You. Fill my heart, my mind, and my life with Your presence. I want to be satisfied in You alone.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
