Scripture:Â John 8:47
“Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”
Devotion:Â We love justification, agreement, and a pass.
Because we do not really like correction, we tend to skip over scriptures like this one.
Jesus said, “Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”
That is pretty clear-cut and self-explanatory.
But let’s get some context on why He said this.
Jesus was in a heated conversation with people who were rejecting truth that came directly from God. Not only were they refusing to believe Him, but they were also accusing Him of having a demon and were plotting to kill Him.
Imagine rejecting truth so hard that you fight the very One sent to save you.
Those who are of God accept His Word and recognize His voice.
Not being able to hear or receive what God is saying is a sign of separation from Him.
Whew! There it is…
So if you hear Him telling you to forgive, and you refuse…
If He tells you to stop your wicked ways, and you continue…
If your response is, “I do not need to hear the Word of God, I’m good.”
Or, “He knows my heart.”
Or, “I’m gon be me.”
Or, “It does not take all that.”
Those responses are not harmless; they are rejection and disconnection from God.
Jesus called it exactly what it was.
And when you think about it, we understand this naturally in everyday life.
If we are with someone, we listen to them, support them, and stay connected.
If we are not with them, we reject them and distance ourselves.
Why would our relationship with God be any different?
Jesus is our way to the Father and our way to an abundant life.
Please receive His Word and His loving correction today.
Correction is not rejection; it is love.
God corrects what He wants to keep.
We want to be able to hear our Father so we can be blessed, protected, and free.
So now ask yourself honestly:
Am I hearing Him?
Am I of Him?
Because hearing God is not just about listening with your ears; it is about obedience in your heart.
God bless you!
Prayer:Â Father God, thank You for loving me enough to speak truth and correction into my life. Forgive me for the times I have ignored Your voice, justified my wrong, or chosen my own way over Yours. Lord, I want to hear You clearly and respond with obedience. Remove anything in me that causes disconnection from You: pride, rebellion, stubbornness, or unbelief. Help me to receive Your Word with humility and love. I want to be of You, led by You, and close enough to hear You always.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Amen 👂🏽
