🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ The Eunuch’s Faith Came by Hearing the Good News!

Scripture: Acts 8:35-39 (KJV)

“Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.”

Devotion: Have you ever heard about something that sounded so good that you immediately wanted to try it?

Maybe someone told you about a restaurant with the best food in town, and before the conversation was over, you were already planning a visit.

Maybe someone shared a testimony about a product, opportunity, or experience that changed their life, and you wanted to experience it for yourself.

Whew!

Good news has a way of creating a response.

That is exactly what happened with the Ethiopian eunuch.

When Philip met him, the eunuch was already reading the Scriptures but did not fully understand what he was reading.

So Philip started where the eunuch was and preached Jesus to him.

I love that.

Philip did not complicate the message.

He preached the Good News.

He preached Jesus.

Glory to God!

As the eunuch listened, something began happening in his heart.

Faith was growing.

Understanding was growing.

Belief was growing.

The Bible says:

“Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17)

The eunuch’s faith came by hearing the Good News!

And look at his response.

Nobody had to beg him.

Nobody had to pressure him.

Nobody had to convince him for weeks.

As soon as he believed, he said:

“See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?”

Whew!

That is the response of a heart that has truly received the Gospel.

The eunuch heard the truth.

He believed the truth.

And then he obeyed the truth.

He heard. He believed. And as soon as he saw an opportunity, he obeyed.

When he saw that water, he did not pass by it and miss the opportunity.

He did not say, “Maybe another day.”

He did not say, “Let me think about it a little longer.”

He did not say, “I’m not ready yet.”

No!

When he saw that water, he immediately asked to be baptized.

Whew!

That is the response of someone whose faith has come alive.

Many people hear the Gospel and believe it, but they keep postponing obedience.

The eunuch teaches us that when God presents an opportunity to obey Him, we should not delay.

Faith responds.

Faith moves.

Faith obeys.

There it is again!

Hear.

Believe.

Obey.

That pattern continues throughout the Book of Acts.

The Gospel was not meant to simply be heard.

It was meant to be believed and acted upon.

Some people hear the Gospel their entire lives but never respond.

Others hear it one time, believe it, and immediately surrender their lives to Christ.

The difference is not in the message.

The difference is in the response.

The eunuch recognized that what Philip was preaching was exactly what he needed.

And after he was baptized, the Bible says he went on his way rejoicing.

Why?

Because salvation brings joy.

Forgiveness brings joy.

Jesus brings joy.

Whew!

Today, the same Gospel is being preached.

The same Jesus is still saving.

The same invitation is still being extended.

The question is:

Will you drive past the water?

Or will you respond in faith and obedience when God gives you the opportunity?

God bless you!

Prayer: Father God, thank You for the Good News of Jesus Christ. Thank You for allowing me to hear Your Word and learn Your truth. Lord, help my faith grow every time I hear Your Word preached and taught. Give me a heart that responds with obedience and not just knowledge. Let me be like the eunuch who gladly received the truth and acted upon it. Help me never miss or delay opportunities to obey You. Thank You for salvation, forgiveness, and the joy that comes through knowing Jesus. Help me share this Good News with others so that their faith may grow also.

In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🕊️
