🕊️ PRAY HERE DEVOTION 🕊️ The Blame Game

Scripture: Genesis 3:12 (NIV)

“The man said, ‘The woman you put here with me; she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.’”

Devotion: Have you ever known someone who never admits when they’re wrong? No matter what they do or how much damage they cause, it’s always somebody else’s fault. They might say something like, “If John hadn’t made me mad, I wouldn’t have crashed out and broke the door.” Instead of owning their actions, they blame the person who “triggered” them. That mindset feels justified in the moment, but it’s actually one of the first signs of sin at work.

One of the first effects of sin is blame. When Adam sinned, he didn’t take responsibility; he blamed Eve, and indirectly blamed God. Sin makes us point fingers instead of looking in the mirror.

Instead of saying, “I was wrong,” sin causes us to say, “If they hadn’t…” or “This wouldn’t have happened if…” Blame keeps us stuck because healing begins with ownership. As long as we blame everyone else, we delay repentance and growth.

Freedom begins when we stop playing the blame game and take responsibility before God. Own it, confess it, and let God restore you.

Prayer: Father, show me where I have been blaming others instead of taking responsibility for my actions. Give me the humility to own my mistakes, repent sincerely, and turn back to You. Heal my heart and help me grow from truth, not excuses.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
