🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ The Anointing Gives Us Spiritual Discernment!

Scripture: 1 John 2:20, 27 (KJV)

1 John 2:20

“But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.”

1 John 2:27

“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”

Devotion:

People who know everything… don’t know enough.

Think about that for a minute.

Have you ever met someone who wasn’t teachable because they always wanted to be the teacher?

No matter what the subject was…

They already had the answer.

Nobody could tell them anything.

Or maybe…

If we’re honest…

Maybe we’ve been that person before.

Whewww! 😂

Here’s one thing I’ve learned about God.

His wisdom is infinite.

That means no matter how much we know…

There is always more to learn.

The moment we think we’ve learned everything…

We’ve already stopped growing.

Now that we’ve established that truth…

Let’s talk about why we desperately need God’s anointing.

Knowledge alone is not enough.

Think about some of the smartest people in the world.

There are brilliant doctors…

Successful attorneys…

Highly educated professors…

Business executives who have built million-dollar companies.

Yet sometimes those same people make decisions that leave everyone asking,

“What were they thinking?”

They ignore obvious warning signs in relationships.

Trust dishonest people.

Sign bad business deals.

Choose money over integrity.

Destroy families.

Lose everything because they lacked something education could never provide.

Spiritual discernment.

Whewww!!

Discernment is one of the greatest gifts God has ever given me.

Because I know this…

Without it, I can be fooled.

The devil is subtle.

He is deceptive.

He is cunning.

He rarely shows up looking like danger.

Most of the time…

He packages deception to look attractive.

He makes wrong opportunities look right.

He makes counterfeit relationships look genuine.

He makes compromise look reasonable.

He makes temptation look harmless.

My, my, my!

That’s why we need discernment.

Discernment helps us see beyond appearances.

It allows us to recognize what our natural eyes cannot see.

Let’s look at our first scripture.

John says,

“But ye have an unction from the Holy One…”

The word “unction” means anointing.

Whewww!!

John is reminding believers that God has placed His Holy Spirit within them.

That means we don’t have to walk through life spiritually blind.

God has given us His Spirit to help us recognize truth from error.

Then verse 27 says something powerful.

”…the anointing… teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie…”

Can we stop right there?

The anointing teaches.

The Holy Spirit warns.

The Holy Spirit nudges.

The Holy Spirit convicts.

The Holy Spirit uncovers lies.

The Holy Spirit reveals truth.

Have you ever had a bad feeling about something…

But couldn’t explain why?

You couldn’t put your finger on it…

Everything looked fine…

Everyone else thought it was a great idea…

But something deep inside kept saying,

“Don’t do it.”

Later you found out something was wrong all along.

That wasn’t luck.

That wasn’t coincidence.

Many times…

That was God’s Spirit giving you discernment.

Maybe you’ve met someone who smiled in your face, said all the right things, and seemed trustworthy…

But something in your spirit wasn’t settled.

Months later, their true character was revealed.

Or maybe you were about to accept a job…

Move to another city…

Enter a relationship…

Make a major purchase…

And God wouldn’t give you peace.

At the time you didn’t understand why.

Later you thanked God for saying no when you couldn’t see what He already knew.

Whewww!!

How many heartaches…

Financial losses…

Broken relationships…

And spiritual mistakes…

Could be avoided if we listened more carefully to the Holy Spirit?

Discernment is one of God’s greatest forms of protection.

It keeps us from believing every voice.

It keeps us from following every trend.

It keeps us from accepting every opportunity.

Just because something is available…

Doesn’t mean it’s God’s will.

Just because something feels good…

Doesn’t mean it’s good for you.

Just because everyone else is doing it…

Doesn’t mean God is leading you there.

As we continue this series on the anointing, remember this:

The anointing doesn’t just empower us…

It protects us by helping us recognize truth before deception has a chance to take root.

In a world full of confusion…

Half-truths…

Counterfeit spirituality…

False teaching…

Manipulation…

And deception…

Discernment isn’t optional.

It’s essential.

Take a quiet moment today and ask yourself:

Have I been listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit, or have I been relying only on my own understanding?

The more we stay close to God, the clearer His voice becomes.

Ask Him to sharpen your discernment so you can recognize His truth before making decisions that affect your life.

Prayer:

Father God, thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit and for the anointing that gives spiritual discernment. I confess that there are times I have leaned on my own understanding instead of seeking Your wisdom. Forgive me for every decision I made without first asking You for direction. Lord, sharpen my spiritual ears so I will recognize Your voice above every other voice. Help me to see beyond appearances and to discern what is true, what is false, what is from You, and what is not. Protect me from deception, manipulation, temptation, and every counterfeit assignment of the enemy. Give me the wisdom to make decisions that honor You and the courage to obey You, even when I don’t fully understand. May Your Spirit continue to teach me, guide me, and keep me walking in truth every day of my life.
