Scripture:Â Acts 8:3-5 (KJV)
“As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.”
Devotion:Â Have you ever been faced with something that forced you to make a move?
Maybe your neighborhood became unsafe, and you had to relocate your family to protect them.
Or perhaps a government began restricting religious freedom, causing Christians to meet in homes, online, or in secret locations so they could continue worshipping and sharing the Gospel.
Whew!
Sometimes circumstances force us to move.
That is exactly what happened in today’s scripture.
The church was being heavily persecuted.
Saul was not playing around.
The Bible says he made havoc of the church.
He went from house to house.
He arrested men and women.
He threw believers into prison.
And after witnessing what happened to Stephen, the Christians understood that their lives were in danger.
So they scattered.
Now some people read that and think they ran away in fear.
Not exactly.
They scattered to be safe, but they also scattered with purpose.
Glory to God!
Notice what they did not do.
They did not stop believing.
They did not stop preaching.
They did not stop serving God.
They did not throw their Bibles down and say,
“This Christian life is too hard.”
They did not say,
“If this is what happens when I obey God, I’m done.”
Whew!
Their response could have been completely different.
They could have become silent.
They could have compromised their faith.
They could have blended into the crowd and hidden their relationship with Jesus.
They could have decided that preaching the Gospel was not worth the risk.
And if they had responded that way, the spread of the Gospel could have slowed down tremendously.
But that is not what happened.
Instead, wherever they went, they preached.
Wherever they landed, they shared Christ.
Wherever God allowed them to go, they continued the work of the Lord.
I love that.
Their persecution became their transportation.
Their scattering became their assignment.
What the enemy intended to stop actually caused the Gospel to spread further than ever before.
Philip went to Samaria and preached Christ.
Others went to different regions.
And because they refused to quit, more people heard about Jesus.
Whew!
That deserves applause.

These believers understood something we all need to learn:
Your circumstances should not determine your obedience.
If God called you to do it, keep doing it.
If God told you to say it, keep saying it.
If God assigned it to you, keep working.
Do not let pressure make you quit.
Do not let opposition make you compromise.
Do not let fear stop your purpose.
The early church kept preaching through persecution.
The question is:
What will your response be when persecution comes?
Will you quit?
Will you change your message?
Will you alter God’s plan to make people comfortable?
Or will you remain faithful and continue the work of the Lord?
God bless you!
Prayer:Â Father God, thank You for the example of the early church. Help me remain faithful when challenges, opposition, or persecution come into my life. Lord, give me the courage to continue obeying You even when it becomes difficult. Do not let fear silence my faith or stop me from sharing the Gospel. Strengthen me to trust You in every season and to continue the work You have called me to do. Let every challenge become an opportunity for growth and every setback become a setup for Your glory. Help me remain steadfast, unmovable, and always abounding in Your work.
In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏 🕊️
