Scripture:Â Acts 9:17-18 (KJV)
“And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.”
Devotion:Â We need the power of the Holy Ghost to carry out the mission and purpose
God has for our lives.
Do you know why?
Because you will face challenges and temptations that, by yourself, you simply do not have the strength to overcome.
Whew!
Without the Holy Ghost, some people would never forgive those who hurt them.
Without the Holy Ghost, some would lose their temper every time they were challenged or criticized.
Without the Holy Ghost, many would continue giving in to sexual temptation, people-pleasing, addiction, pride, or fear.
Without the Holy Ghost, we are trying to fight spiritual battles with human strength.
And human strength is not enough.
For example, if I did not have the Holy Ghost, I would still be too timid and shy to preach and teach the Gospel. I would not have the courage God gives me to stand firm in my faith when it is questioned. I would not have the confidence to trust Him for miracles or believe Him to answer impossible prayers.
Glory to God!
That is why Jesus said,
“Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy
Ghost is come upon you…”
Power!
Not just goosebumps.
Not just emotions.
Power to live right.
Power to obey.
Power to endure.
Power to resist temptation.
Power to fulfill God’s purpose.
For all of the things you say,
“I just can’t do…”
With the Holy Ghost…
You can.
Now let’s look at today’s scripture.
Ananias obeyed the Lord.
He went to Saul.
He told him why he was there.
Then he laid his hands on him and prayed.
Immediately, the scales fell from Saul’s eyes.
He received his sight.
He was baptized.
And he received the Holy Ghost!
Whew!
Do you really think Saul could have gone from being the man who persecuted Christians to becoming one of the greatest preachers of
Jesus Christ without the Holy Ghost?
Absolutely not.
He needed God’s power.
And so do we.
The Holy Ghost gives us power to live out these scriptures instead of merely reading them.
It gives us power to do what is right when our flesh wants to do wrong.
I remember singing an old church song that said:
“Power, power Lord.
We need Your power.
The power to walk and talk right.
POWER LORD!”
Whew!
Yes, Lord!
That is exactly what this world needs today.
Not more opinions.
Not more excuses.
Power!
What are you struggling with today?
Anger?
Fear?
Lust?
Unforgiveness?
Insecurity?
The Holy Ghost can help you stop struggling and start overcoming.
Then the Bible tells us that Saul ate because he had been fasting for three days.
He regained his strength.
And immediately he began preaching the
Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Why?
How could someone go from rejecting Jesus to boldly preaching Him?
Because Saul had experienced the power of God for himself.
When you experience God for yourself…
It erases doubt.
Nobody had to convince Saul anymore.
Jesus spoke to him.
Jesus made him a promise.
Jesus fulfilled that promise.
Jesus restored his sight.
Jesus filled him with the Holy Ghost.
Everything God told Saul…
He did it!
Glory!!
I have countless testimonies where I can honestly say,
“Only God could have done that.”
I’m sure many of you do too.
And that’s why your testimony is so powerful.
Nobody can argue with what God has personally done in your life.
Your testimony becomes proof that He is real.
It becomes hope for someone who is still waiting on their miracle.
Today, do not just ask God to change your circumstances.
Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit.
Because when God changes you, your testimony will change someone else.
God bless you!
Prayer:Â Father God, thank You for Your power and for the gift of the Holy Ghost. I confess that I cannot live this Christian life in my own strength. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and give me the power to overcome every temptation, every fear, and every weakness. Help me walk right, talk right, think right, and live in a way that brings glory to You. Remove every scale from my spiritual eyes so I can clearly see Your truth and Your purpose for my life. Lord, give me a testimony that points others to You, and use my life to encourage someone else to believe. Thank You for the power to change, the power to endure, and the power to fulfill the calling You have placed on my life.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.🙏🏼🕊️
