Scripture:Â 1 Thessalonians 5:23
“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Devotion: Have you ever heard people say things like, “He sold his soul to the devil”?
That old saying came from people choosing the things of this world: money, fame, power, and temporary pleasure; over God. Over the years, many celebrities have been accused of this. That is a whole different devotion by itself.
But let’s stay right here for today.
Ferdinand Foch once said, “The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire.”
I agree with that quote.
Whether your soul is on fire for God or on fire for the devil; it is powerful.
The disciples’ souls were on fire for God, and as a result, they won many souls for Christ. They were bold, committed, and fully surrendered.
But when a person’s soul is on fire for the world or for the enemy, we see those results too.
Robbing.
Killing.
Lying.
Cheating.
Manipulation.
Pride.
Hatred.
These are all signs of a soul that is not surrendered or on fire for God.
Let’s make it clear:
Your soul is your intellect; how you think.
It is your emotions.
It is your will.
It is the very core of who you are.
Your soul is what makes you eternal.
That is why it must be sanctified by God.
Because if your soul is not right, your spirit and your body will struggle to stay right.
Your thoughts will lead you wrong.
Your emotions will control you.
Your choices will be led by flesh instead of faith.
But when God sanctifies your soul, your thinking changes.
You stop loving what destroys you.
You stop being comfortable in sin.
You start desiring peace, truth, and righteousness.
Think about the difference between a soul that is saved and one that is not.
One seeks God.
One runs from Him.
One desires holiness.
One chases destruction.
One has peace.
One is constantly restless.
That’s the difference.
Secure your eternal home for your soul now.
Don’t wait until later.
Don’t gamble with eternity.
Let God sanctify your soul and make you whole.
God bless you!
Prayer:Â Father God, thank You for caring about our soul and our eternity. Lord, we surrender our mind, our emotions, and our will to You. Sanctify our soul and make us whole. Remove every worldly desire, every wrong thought, and every ungodly attachment that pulls us away from You. Let our soul be on fire for righteousness and truth. Help us to choose You over temporary things and to secure our eternal home by fully surrendering to You now. We trust You to transform us from the inside out.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
