🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ Sanctify Your Body As It Is God’s Temple

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:23

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Devotion: You may have heard this before: “Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.”

Now think about that.

What should the house where the Spirit of God dwells and lives look like?

He is the King of kings, Lord of lords, and Creator of all things. I picture a place that is intentionally clean, prepared, and reserved for Him.

Now, let’s be honest…

Pause and think about the temple you are responsible for keeping clean for God.

Ask yourself:

Am I a clean house for Him to live in?

Is my house sanctified and reserved for Him?

And for some, the bigger question is:

Do I even want Him to live in me?

That last question is a devotion by itself, but let’s stay focused.

What does a sanctified body or temple look like?

Romans 12:1 tells us to present our bodies as “a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God,” and then it says this is our reasonable service.

That means God is not asking for too much. It is reasonable for us to honor Him with the body He gave us.

You may be thinking, “What’s the sacrifice?”

I’m glad you asked.

Refraining from fornication and adultery is one.

According to 1 Corinthians 6:18–20, when we commit fornication, we sin against our own bodies. Our bodies do not belong to us; they belong to God.

Because we have been bought with the price of His blood, our bodies are to be used to glorify Him.

Pray, and He will help you.

Giving of ourselves: our time, our service, and our actions to live righteously; makes us a living sacrifice.

Being a good steward of our health matters too.

How many saved Christians are disobeying doctor’s orders and not taking care of their health?

Eating right, proper exercise, rest, and staying away from harmful things is also obedience to God concerning your temple.

Drugs and alcohol are also included in things that are harmful to our bodies and our overall health. We must stay away from these things to keep our temple healthy and sanctified for God.

We can eliminate a lot of unnecessary, self-inflicted health issues by obeying God’s wisdom.

How we present ourselves on the outside can also reflect whether God lives on the inside.

A life of proper rest, discipline, balance, and holiness is mixed into this sacrificial life for Christ.

So a sanctified body consists of all of these things.

And once again, this confirms that we need God to help us do it.

The only thing He needs… is our permission.

God bless you!

Prayer: Father God, thank You for the body You have given us and for allowing us to be a temple for Your Spirit. Lord, forgive us for the times we have not honored You with our bodies, our health, or our choices. Help us to live as a holy and acceptable sacrifice before You. Strengthen us to walk in purity, discipline, and obedience. Teach us to care for our temple in a way that glorifies You. Sanctify our body completely, and let everything we do reflect that You live within us. We give You full permission to do the work.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
