šŸ•ŠļøPRAY HERE DevotionšŸ•Šļøā€Øā€œPainted Picture of Praise in Detailā€

Scripture: ā€œ1 Praise the LORD.Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.

2 Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.

3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre,

4 praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe,

5 praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.

6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.ā€

(Psalm 150)

Devotion: There are so many misconceptions about what praise should look like. A popular phrase you may have heard is, ā€œit doesn’t take all that.ā€ Now, yes , there are some people who make a mockery of praise because they are not sincere. This has distorted the image of true praise for many.

But over the next few devotions, we will revisit praise and paint a clearer, more accurate picture of what God says it should look like.

Let me take your mind back to an old classic: ā€œThe Price Is Right.ā€

Remember the famous phrase,ā€œCome on down!!!ā€?

People were winning cars, cash, vacations, and all kinds of prizes. I used to faithfully watch it with my grandmother, and I have witnessed people:

  • Cry

  • Run

  • Jump

  • Dance

  • Scream

  • Hug strangers

  • Burst into overwhelming excitement

And nobody questioned them.

Nobody said, ā€œIt doesn’t take all that.ā€

Even in everyday life, people will jump, shout, dance, or celebrate over a job promotion, a touchdown, a surprise gift, or a new car… yet when it comes to praising God, suddenly the response is, ā€œThat’s too much.ā€

But God’s Word gives us a very detailed picture of praise. Psalm 150 doesn’t leave room for confusion. Let’s break it down:

Verse 1: ā€œPraise the Lord.ā€

A clear command. Then it says to praise Himin His sanctuaryandin the heavens; meaning praise should happen everywhere.

Verse 2: Praise Him for His acts of power and for His surpassing greatness.

Pause and think: What powerful things has God done for you? How great has He been in your life?

Verses 3–5: Praise Him with : instruments, trumpets, harps, strings, cymbals , and with dancing!

Yes, dancing. Praise involves movement. Your movement may not look like mine, but praise naturally stirs the body because it flows from a grateful heart.

Now someone may be thinking, ā€œI don’t want to dance. I don’t feel like celebrating.ā€

Well, God settles that in the last verse.

Verse 6: ā€œLet everything that has breath praise the Lord.ā€

This isn’t about what we feel like. It’s about who Godis: powerful, great, unmatched, and deserving of our praise.

So let me ask you:

Are you breathing?

Then you should be praising the Lord.

A good place to start is simply saying, ā€œLord, thank You for today.ā€

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the gift of breath. Help me to honor You with authentic praise that reflects Your power and Your greatness in my life. Teach me to praise You freely, boldly, and sincerely ; just as Your Word instructs.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thank you for that reminder. We get so caught up in how things are supposed to look but whose standards are we using? Our own because it’s certainly not God’s. Just because someone else expressions of praise don’t look like ours don’t mean we should judge or criticize them for how they express their feelings. God please forgive me for criticizing what didn’t look right to me. As long as it is sincere and the praise is to you it is acceptable.
