Scripture: Isaiah 38:1â2 (ESV)
âIn those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, âThus says the Lord: Set your house in order, for you shall die, you shall not recover.â Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord.â
Devotion: We have all faced things that nobody could change or make better. Sometimes it is things that we cannot control, things we did not create, and it is literally in the hands of God.
The big question is⌠how do we handle these things?
Do we freak out and lose it?
Do we settle and become depressed and sick about it?
Do we lash out and take it out on others?
Or do we pray and turn to God?
Hezekiah received news that he was terminally ill. He was told plainly, you are going to die. Imagine getting that kind of news. Imagine not being ready. Imagine feeling like time just got cut short.
Some people, when they hear something like that, completely shut down. They fall into hopelessness and give up on everything.
Others may panic and start trying to control what they cannot control: running from place to place, stressing themselves out, trying to âfixâ something that only God can fix.
Hezekiahâs first response was human, he cried. He didnât want to die. He felt it deeply.
But after he cried⌠he did something powerful.
He prayed.
He turned his face to the wall and began to talk to God. He didnât call everyone else first. He didnât sit in despair. He went straight to the One who had the final say.
He reminded God of his faithfulness. He was honest. He was specific. He asked for his life.
And God responded.
When you keep reading, God added 15 more years to his life.
Thatâs not something medicine could do.
Thatâs not something people could do.
Only God could do it.
There is somebody reading this right now⌠and you are facing something that feels impossible.
Something nobody understands.
Something nobody around you can fix.
Something that feels like it has already been decided.
But listen, God still has the final say.
I donât know what it is for you.
It may be a situation with your children that feels out of control.
It may be a health report that shook your faith.
It may be a financial situation that looks impossible.
It may be something breaking your heart that nobody else can see.
But I do know this:
Only God can do it.
So instead of carrying itâŚ
Instead of stressing about itâŚ
Instead of trying to fix it in your own strengthâŚ
Turn your face to the wall and pray.
Get alone with God.
Be honest with Him.
Cry if you need to.
But donât stop there,pray.
Because what looks final to you is not final to God.
God bless you.
Prayer: Father God, I come to You with the things I cannot fix, control, or understand. You see every situation I am facing. You know the weight I carry. Lord, I turn to You today, just like Hezekiah did. I ask You to step in and do what only You can do. Strengthen me, help me trust You, and remind me that You have the final say. I surrender it all to You.
In Jesusâ name, Amen.
