Scripture: Psalm 51:10 (KJV)
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Devotion: When we go through things in life, our hearts are affected.
If we are not careful to guard and protect it, the heart can get dirty. Hurt, disappointment, betrayal, rejection; those things don’t just happen… they leave residue.
And if your heart gets more dirty with every hurt and it is not periodically cleaned, it can become black.
Let me ask you something…
Have you ever said or felt,
“I don’t even care anymore”?
That is a dangerous place to be.
Because a person who stops caring becomes capable of things they never thought they would do. When your heart gets hardened, conviction gets quieter. Compassion fades. Love disappears. And wrong starts to feel normal.
That’s why we cannot just go through life letting things pile up in our hearts.
In today’s scripture, David knew he was wrong for what he did to be with Bathsheba. He felt so sorrowful about it that he cried out to God:
“Create in me a clean heart.”
David understood something powerful and important;
his actions were a reflection of his heart condition.
He knew, “If I did this… my heart must be off.”
And instead of ignoring it, justifying it, or blaming someone else…
he went straight to God for a heart cleanse.
We have all sat in David’s seat before.
We’ve all felt guilty.
We’ve all done things we knew were wrong.
We’ve all allowed things into our hearts that should not be there.
The difference is…
Not everybody goes to God to make it right.
Some people sit in it.
Some people ignore it.
Some people let it build up until they don’t feel anything anymore.
But today is your moment.
It’s time to stop pretending your heart is fine.
It’s time to stop carrying around hurt, sin, and heaviness.
It’s time to let God clean you from the inside out.
Because no matter how good you look on the outside…
if your heart is not clean, it will eventually show.
God doesn’t just clean behavior;
He cleans hearts.
And when your heart is clean, your life will follow.
So don’t wait until your heart gets hard.
Don’t wait until you feel numb.
Go to God today and ask Him:
“Create in me a clean heart.”
God bless you.
Prayer: Father, create in me a clean heart. Wash away every hurt, every sin, and every wrong thing that has taken root in me. Renew a right spirit within me. Help me to guard my heart and bring everything to You instead of letting it build up. I don’t want a hardened heart; I want a heart that pleases You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
