🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ Growing Pains and Setting Order The First 7 Deacons

Scripture: Acts 6:2–3 (KJV)

“Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.”

Devotion: Have you ever been a part of something that grew so fast that new problems started showing up?

Maybe it was a business.

Maybe it was a family.

Maybe it was a ministry.

At first, everything runs smoothly because there are only a few people to manage. But as growth happens, new needs arise, more people need help, and if order is not established, things begin to fall through the cracks.

Growth is a blessing.

But growth also comes with growing pains.

That is exactly what we see in Acts chapter 6.

The church was growing rapidly. People were being saved daily, and the Gospel was spreading everywhere.

Praise God!

But then came the first complaint.

Some of the widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food and care.

Now let’s be honest.

When people feel overlooked, forgotten, or neglected, complaints usually follow.

The Apostles were not intentionally ignoring anyone.

The problem was that the ministry had grown so much that they could not do everything themselves.

Whew!

That is a lesson for every church leader, ministry leader, business owner, and parent.

You cannot do everything by yourself.

The Apostles understood something important.

Their primary assignment was preaching the Gospel, teaching the Word of God, and prayer.

If they left their calling to personally handle every need, the ministry itself would suffer.

Notice what they did not do.

They did not get offended by the complaint.

They did not ignore the problem.

And they did not abandon their assignment.

Instead, they looked for a solution.

Glory to God!

The solution was to appoint qualified people to help.

They established an office in the church so the needs of the people could be met without pulling the Apostles away from the ministry God had called them to.

In other words, they recognized they needed HELP.

Some people struggle with that word.

Help.

They think needing help means weakness.

But needing help is often a sign of wisdom.

Even in ministry, God never intended for one person to do everything alone.

The church grows best when everyone works together and serves in the area God has called them to.

This story is not just about the first deacons.

It is about solving problems, setting order, and recognizing that growth requires structure.

So if God is blessing something in your life and it is growing, do not be afraid to make adjustments.

Do not be afraid to ask for help.

And do not allow the work to suffer because you refuse to share responsibility.

Tomorrow, we will look at the qualifications of these seven men and how those qualifications apply to every servant of Christ.

God bless you!

Prayer: Father God, thank You for the growth and blessings You bring into my life. Help me to handle growth with wisdom and not become overwhelmed. Give me discernment to recognize problems and the humility to seek help when I need it. Lord, help me stay focused on the assignment You have given me while also caring for the people You have placed around me. Establish order in every area of my life, ministry, family, and work. Teach me to work together with others for Your glory and the advancement of Your Kingdom.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
