Scripture:Â 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)
“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Devotion: Have you ever tried to use something that wasn’t fully finished?
Like cooking a meal and pulling it out too early: it looks good on the outside, but when you cut into it, it’s still raw.
Or washing clothes and stopping the cycle halfway: now they’re wet, not clean, and not ready to wear.
It’s incomplete… and because it’s incomplete, it’s not effective.
That’s how it is when sanctification is not complete.
Let’s be honest; people do not have the ability to sanctify themselves completely.
Yes, God tells us in His Word to sanctify ourselves, but what He really wants is for us to surrender and let Him do it.
Because when God does it, He sanctifies you wholly: your spirit, your soul, and your body.
That’s how you know God did it… the work is complete.
You won’t be walking around half saved.
You won’t have a sanctified spirit while your soul is still full of worldly desires and your body still living in sin.
See, when we try to “sanctify ourselves,” we can become selective.
We pick and choose what we want to let go of.
We clean up certain areas but ignore others.
But God doesn’t work like that.
This reminds me of when we were children and our parents would bathe us. They made sure we didn’t miss anything. And even when we got older, they would yell to the bathroom, “Wash everything and don’t miss any spots!”
God is the same way.
He doesn’t want you to miss any spots.
He wants you sanctified WHOLLY.
Every thought.
Every habit.
Every desire.
Every part of your life.
And the only way that happens is through surrender.
When you truly give yourself to God, He begins a work in you that touches every area. Nothing is left undone.
So don’t settle for partial transformation.
Don’t be okay with “just enough.”
Let God finish the work in you.
Please continue with me over the next couple of days as I break down each part of sanctification.
God bless you!
Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Word and for Your desire to sanctify me completely. Lord, I surrender every part of myself to You: my spirit, my soul, and my body. Forgive me for the times I have tried to do this on my own and have been selective in what I give to You. Cleanse me fully and don’t let me miss any areas that need to be changed. Do a complete work in me, Lord, so that I may be blameless before You. I trust You to finish what You have started in me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
