🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ God’s Anointing Empowers You for Service

Scripture: Luke 4:18 (KJV)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.”

Devotion:

Many people have heard the words “anointing” or “anointed,” but if we are honest, many still don’t know what they truly mean.

Take a moment and think about it.

If someone asked you, “What is the anointing?” could you explain it?

Most people describe it by saying,

“The preacher was anointed!”

“That singer is really anointed!”

“I felt the anointing in that service!”

Whewww!

But what is it?

The anointing is from God.

He is the One who gives it.

To be anointed means to be consecrated (set apart), divinely chosen, and empowered by God’s supernatural power for His purpose.

Whew!

Just that definition alone clears up so much.

The anointing is not a feeling…

It is not a title…

It is not popularity…

It is not talent.

It is God’s supernatural power resting upon someone to accomplish what cannot be accomplished through human ability alone.

My, my, my!

There are simply some things that cannot be done without God’s anointing.

You can preach a sermon without it…

But you cannot preach with life-changing power without it.

You can sing a song without it…

But you cannot sing in a way that causes someone’s heart to surrender to Christ without it.

You can pray without it…

But there are prayers that only God’s power can answer.

You can counsel people…

But only God’s anointing can truly break chains, heal hearts, and deliver people from the power of sin.

Have you ever sat in a church service and suddenly began crying?

Or felt chills all over your body while hearing God’s Word?

Or sensed a peace that you couldn’t explain?

That’s because God’s presence was moving.

Whewwww! 🙌🏽🔥

Now let’s look at today’s scripture.

Jesus stood and declared,

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me…”

Can we stop right there?

Whewwww!!!

When you are anointed, the Spirit of the Lord is upon you!

You know it’s not you.

You know it’s God.

People sometimes ask,

“What was that I felt?”

It was the Holy Spirit working.

But here’s something we must never forget.

God does not anoint us so people will praise us.

He anoints us so we can serve Him.

The next part of the scripture says,

”…because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor…”

Notice…

The anointing always has an assignment attached to it.

Jesus wasn’t anointed to become famous.

He wasn’t anointed to impress people.

He was anointed to serve people.

Then He says,

”…he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives…”

Another resting place!

Whewww!!

Jesus came to set captives free.

And through His Spirit…

He anoints us to proclaim that same freedom today.

People who are trapped in sin are prisoners.

People bound by addiction are prisoners.

People living in fear…

Bitterness…

Depression…

Hopelessness…

Need to hear that Jesus still sets people free.

Then Jesus continues,

”…recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.”

Healing.

Deliverance.

Restoration.

Freedom.

Every one of these works is accomplished through the power of God’s anointing.

Here’s something many people overlook.

Jesus was standing in the synagogue in Nazareth reading from the prophet Isaiah.

As He continued reading, He declared,

“This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.”

In other words,

“I am the One Isaiah was talking about.”

He was announcing that He had been anointed by God to fulfill this mission.

Another beautiful truth is this:

Jesus did not begin performing miracles until after the Holy Spirit descended upon Him and He was anointed for ministry.

Whewww!

If Jesus, in His earthly ministry, operated under the anointing of the Holy Spirit…

How much more do we need God’s anointing to fulfill our purpose?

Today, I want you to remember this:

The anointing is never about making us look great…

It’s about making God known.

The anointing doesn’t exist to elevate our name…

It exists to lift up the name of Jesus.

As we begin this new series on the anointing, I pray your understanding grows deeper than ever before.

Don’t just desire to be gifted.

Desire to be anointed.

Because gifts may impress people…

But God’s anointing changes lives.

Reflection

Take a quiet moment today and ask yourself:

Am I asking God to make me successful… or am I asking Him to anoint me for His purpose?

Never seek the anointing for recognition.

Seek it so God can use your life to bring healing, freedom, hope, and salvation to others.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for choosing to use ordinary people for Your extraordinary work. I don’t desire recognition, applause, or personal glory; I desire Your will for my life. If it is Your will, anoint me with Your Holy Spirit to fulfill the purpose You created me for. Empower me to serve others with humility, love, boldness, and compassion. Let my life point people to Jesus and never to myself. Use my words to encourage, my hands to serve, my prayers to bring healing, and my life to proclaim the Good News. Help me never depend on my own strength but always on Your Spirit. Lord, whatever You have called me to do, equip me through Your anointing to do it faithfully and for Your glory alone. I surrender myself completely to You.
