“Fooled By Fast Cash”

Scripture: Proverbs 13:11 (NLT)

“Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time.”

Proverbs 13:11 (ESV)

“Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.”

Devotion: Have you ever heard the saying, “Too good to be true”? I was taught that if something sounds too good to be true, it more than likely is not true. People who want fast cash will fall for any scheme! The schemes that seem like they “work” for a few people usually land them in jail, in trouble, in debt, or right back to nothing, real fast.

There are so many scams out there convincing people, “Hey, you can make a lot of money and be rich today. All you have to do is…” send your Cash App, join this pyramid Ponzi business, apply for a certain credit card, and the list goes on. I have heard so many wild stories of people losing money because they trusted stuff like this.

Crime is another lie the enemy uses to make fast cash: stealing, selling drugs, scamming people, and all sorts of illegal things that promise quick money. But one thing is true; all money ain’t good money. Any money that comes with risk, stress, fear, or trouble is not blessed. I would rather be patient, work, save, and gain wealth the right way.

If you want to start living wise and learning valuable lessons, read the book of Proverbs. It is one of my favorite books of the Bible because of its relevance and usefulness. Today’s scripture confirms everything I just shared. I included two versions to make it clear what is being said: Wealth gained hastily will dwindle. Money that comes too fast and without proper planning will disappear just as fast. It won’t last! I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

But whoever gathers little by little will increase it. Doing things the right way may feel slow. Saving a little each week instead of getting a big lump sum at once; but the little you save adds up and produces real wealth that won’t disappear. Don’t fall in love with money, and don’t be anxious. God blesses those who choose wisdom over shortcuts.

Prayer: Father, thank You for this message today. Help me not to fall for traps, shortcuts, or schemes. Teach me to be wise, patient, and responsible with money. Protect me from everything that looks good but isn’t from You. Bless the work of my hands, and help me honor You in the way I earn, save, and steward what You give me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
