Scripture: âTrust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.â â Proverbs 3:5â6 (NIV)
Devotion: I know you may feel like you know a lot and that your way of thinking is just top tier. But can we be honest? Some of your decisions have led you to some unfavorable outcomes. Plainly put, you have gotten yourself in a few pickles!Unless youâre a unicorn, this is true for all of us. Nobody in life has escaped making a bad decision or two (or three).
Some people make fewer bad choices because they are deep thinkers and like to analyze every detail before deciding. While that sounds like a great way to avoid bad decisions, the truth is, our knowledge is limited. Others make decisions based on how they feel in the moment. But whether youâre a thinker or a feeler, things can go right or wrong depending on what , or who youâre leaning on.
Todayâs scripture provides a foolproof way to ensure the best decisions in life. Letâs break it down:
âTrust in the Lord with ALL your heart.â
We all know that whatever our heart feels will influence how and what we do. Thatâs why we canât halfway trust God. We must trust Him with ourwhole heart.Where the heart leads, we follow. So make sure your heart leads you to trust God fully.
âAnd lean NOT on your own understanding.â
If our ideas were always so great, God wouldnât have needed to say this! But He did, because our understanding isnot always accurate. We often lack full understanding or misinterpret situations, and that alone can lead us straight into doomed decisions.
âIn all your ways submit to God.â
Now this right here is the key! If you aresubmittedto God, thereâs no way you can keep making bad choices. Submission causes you to accept and obey His wisdom and instructions instead of following your own emotions or assumptions.
âAnd He will make your paths straight.â
Thatâs the reward! When you submit to God, He will correct your crooked thinking, actions, and ways. He will take what was once confusing and make it clear.
If we put all of this together, we would definitely be delivered from doomed decisions. Trust Him, stop relying on what you think you know, and submit every plan to Him. God will never lead you wrong!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being patient with me even when Iâve made poor decisions. Lord, I surrender my understanding, my ideas, and my plans to You. Teach me to trust You with all my heart and not to lean on my own thoughts. Help me to submit every decision to You so that You can make my paths straight. Deliver me from choices that lead to regret, and lead me in the way that brings You glory. In Jesusâ name, Amen.
