Scripture: Luke 11:28 (NIV)
âHe replied, âBlessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.ââ
Devotion: Do you remember sitting in class and zoning out during lectures? Maybe that was never you , but letâs just imagine it. Picture yourself sitting in a classroom while your professor is giving a lecture filled with valuable notes andinstructions for extra bonus points. Meanwhile, youâre distracted⌠drifting off⌠missing everything. You didnât even know they mentioned extra credit , and you needed it!
This is exactly what happens when we treat the Word of God the same way. His Word gives us life changing wisdom, protection, and instructions that lead to blessings. But sometimes we zone out spiritually⌠distracted by life, emotions, or busyness ; and we end up missing what God is trying to give us.
I can think of times when hearing Godâs voice and obeying it protected me from trouble. I can also think of times when I ignored His nudging and fell right into situations I could have avoided. Both kinds of experiences have taught me the truth of todayâs verse.
Jesus said, âBlessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.â
This means that :simplyhearingthe Word , sitting in church, listening to sermons, and reading devotionals isnot enough. Donât be the person who wants the blessing without the obedience.
Itâs like someone handing you turn-by-turn directions to a gold mine. You can listen, nod, smile, and say âAmenâ⌠but if you never get up and follow the instructions, you will never reach the treasure.
Jesus used the word âratherâ on purpose ; meaning you have options. You donât have to listen, and you donât have to obey. God will never force you.
But I can confidently tell you this:
You will never be as blessed as those who choose to both hear and obey Godâs Word.
Think about that today. Make it your intention not just to hear⌠but to truly listenand respond.
Then youâll walk into the blessings God has already prepared for you.
Prayer: Lord, help me to not only hear Your Word but obey it with a willing heart. Open my ears to Your voice, remove distractions, and guide me into the blessings You have for me. In Jesusâ name, Amen.
