Scripture: Ephesians 5:8 NIV

ā€œFor you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.ā€

Devotion :

IS YOUR LIGHT ON?

šŸ’”

In this dark world, can the people close to you SEE YOUR LIGHT?

Your family?

Your coworkers?

Your friends?

The people who follow you online?

Do they know that you know Jesus?

Or have we become so ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that we’re HIDING IT? 🄺

Now, some of us will immediately say:

ā€œI’m not ashamed of Jesus!ā€

Okay.

But when was the last time you told somebody about Him?

šŸ‘€

Whewww!

Because it’s possible to say we’re not ashamed of Jesus while living so quietly about Him that nobody would ever know we belong to Him.

Paul says:

ā€œFor you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.ā€

Notice something important.

Paul doesn’t say:

ā€œYou occasionally HAVE some light.ā€

He says:

ā€œYOU ARE LIGHT IN THE LORD.ā€

šŸ™ŒšŸ½šŸ”„

Jesus changed us!

We were once in darkness ourselves.

We didn’t always know what we know now.

We didn’t always understand God’s Word.

We didn’t always make godly decisions.

WE NEEDED SOMEBODY TO TELL US ABOUT JESUS.

And now that we’ve received the Light…

WHAT ARE WE DOING WITH IT?

🄺

Sometimes we as Christians become so consumed with ourselves that Christianity becomes completely about US.

Lord, bless ME.

Lord, heal ME.

Lord, open MY door.

Lord, increase MY finances.

Lord, fix MY family.

Lord, give ME what I’ve been praying for.

And God absolutely cares about our needs.

But when did following Jesus become ONLY ABOUT WHAT WE CAN GET FROM HIM?

My, my, my! šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

THERE ARE STILL PEOPLE IN THE DARK.

There are people around you who don’t know Jesus Christ.

People who are hurting.

People who feel hopeless.

People carrying guilt and wondering whether God could ever forgive them.

People who think they’ve messed their lives up too badly to come to God.

People who want something different but DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START.

Somebody is waiting to be introduced to the Jesus YOU ALREADY KNOW.

šŸ™šŸ½

And witnessing doesn’t always mean standing on a corner with a microphone.

Sometimes it happens at work.

Your coworker says:

ā€œI don’t know how I’m going to make it through this.ā€

And instead of just saying:

ā€œGirl, that’s crazy.ā€Ā šŸ˜‚

Maybe that’s your opportunity to say:

ā€œCan I pray with you?ā€

Maybe somebody tells you:

ā€œI’ve done too much wrong. God doesn’t want me.ā€

There’s your opportunity!

Tell them about the Jesus who forgives.

Tell them about grace.

Tell them about repentance.

Tell them about salvation.

TURN YOUR LIGHT ON!

šŸ’”šŸ”„

Sometimes your light shines through how you LIVE.

How you treat people when you’re angry.

How you forgive.

How you conduct business.

How you respond when somebody mistreats you.

How you love people who cannot do anything for you.

How you maintain integrity when nobody is watching.

People should be able to see something in us that points beyond US.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:16:

ā€œLet your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.ā€

There it is!

THE LIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO POINT PEOPLE TO GOD.

šŸ™ŒšŸ½šŸ™ŒšŸ½šŸ™ŒšŸ½

Not:

ā€œLook how wonderful I am.ā€

But:

ā€œLOOK WHAT JESUS HAS DONE IN ME.ā€

That’s the difference.

And let’s be honest.

Sometimes we keep quiet because we don’t want people to think we’re ā€œtoo religious.ā€

We don’t want to make anybody uncomfortable.

We’ll talk about relationships.

Money.

Sports.

Politics.

Celebrity gossip.

Our favorite shows.

Where we’re going on vacation.

What we’re eating.

What somebody did to us.

šŸ˜‚

But when it comes to JESUS…

🤐

WHY DID THE LIGHT GET SO DIM?

🄺

Paul said in Romans 1:16:

ā€œFor I am not ashamed of the gospelā€¦ā€

Church, we cannot be ashamed of the very Gospel that SAVED US.

And please understand:

Shining your light doesn’t mean forcing conversations on people, arguing people into Christianity, condemning everybody you meet, or acting spiritually superior.

LIGHT DOESN’T HAVE TO SCREAM TO BE SEEN.

WHEWWW! šŸ™ŒšŸ½

Live it.

Love people.

Serve people.

Tell the truth.

Share your testimony.

Pray for somebody.

Invite somebody to church or Bible study.

Tell somebody what Jesus has done for you.

And when God opens the door…

TELL THEM ABOUT JESUS.

Because there are people who genuinely want to come OUT OF THE DARKNESS.

They just need somebody willing to show them where the Light is.

And remember…

SOMEBODY ONCE HELPED YOU FIND HIM TOO.

šŸ„ŗšŸ™šŸ½

Maybe it was your mama.

Your grandmother.

A pastor.

A Sunday school teacher.

A friend.

A coworker.

Somebody invited you somewhere.

Somebody prayed for you.

Somebody shared Scripture.

Somebody told you their testimony.

Somebody’s light helped you see JESUS.

Now somebody else may need yours.

Don’t become so consumed with building your life that you forget about helping somebody find ETERNAL LIFE.

Don’t become so focused on receiving blessings that you forget why God left you here after He saved you.

There are still souls to reach.

There are still people who need Jesus.

There are still people standing in darkness looking for the Light.

BUT LET ME ASK YOU SOMETHING…

ARE YOU STILL IN THE DARK?

Is that the reason your light is off?

ARE YOU STILL TRYING TO FIND YOUR WAY?

🄺

Maybe you’ve been reading these devotions.

Maybe you’ve heard people talk about Jesus.

Maybe you’ve gone to church here and there.

Maybe you know Scripture.

Maybe you believe God exists.

But you still haven’t personally surrendered your life to Jesus Christ.

Maybe you’re searching.

Maybe you know something is missing.

Maybe you’re tired of trying to figure everything out by yourself.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO KEEP WANDERING IN THE DARK.

šŸ„ŗšŸ™šŸ½

Jesus said:

ā€œI am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.ā€ — John 8:12 NIV

There it is! šŸ™ŒšŸ½šŸ”„

YOU DON’T HAVE TO FIND YOUR OWN WAY OUT.

JESUS IS THE WAY.

Maybe that’s exactly why God led you to this devotion today.

Before you can shine the Light for somebody else…

YOU NEED TO KNOW THE LIGHT FOR YOURSELF.

Come to Jesus.

Let Him save you.

Let Him forgive you.

Let Him lead you.

Let Him change your life.

Let Him bring you out of the darkness you’ve been trying to navigate by yourself.

COME OUT OF THE DARKNESS AND INTO THE LIGHT.

šŸ’”šŸ™ŒšŸ½

And for those of us who already know Jesus:

TURN YOUR LIGHT ON!

Let it shine so brightly that somebody sees your life…

hears your testimony…

experiences your love…

and ultimately finds their way to JESUS CHRIST.

Because somebody’s light helped YOUĀ find your way.

Now somebody else may need yours.

IS YOUR LIGHT ON?

šŸ’”šŸ™šŸ½

Reflect & Respond

Ask yourself honestly:

Do the people closest to me know that I follow Jesus?

When was the last time I intentionally told somebody about Christ?

Have I become so consumed with my own needs that I’ve stopped thinking about lost people?

Am I living in a way that points people toward Jesus?

And if you’re reading this and don’t know Jesus for yourself:

ARE YOU STILL IN THE DARK?

Are you still trying to find your way?

You don’t have to stay there.

JESUS IS CALLING YOU INTO THE LIGHT.

šŸ„ŗšŸ™šŸ½

For those who already know Him, here’s today’s challenge:

PRAY FOR ONE PERSON WHO NEEDS JESUS.

Then ask God:

ā€œLord, if You give me the opportunity, help me recognize it and give me the courage to speak.ā€

Don’t pressure them.

Don’t preach ATĀ them.

Love them.

Pray for them.

And when God opens the door…

LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE.

šŸ’”šŸ”„

Prayer :

Father God, thank You for bringing me out of darkness and into Your light. Forgive me for the times I’ve been so consumed with myself that I’ve forgotten about the people around me who need You. Give me courage to share Jesus without shame. Let my words, actions, love, and character point people toward You.

And Lord, for the person reading this who is still trying to find their way, draw them to Jesus. Let them know they don’t have to remain in darkness. Let them experience Your forgiveness, salvation, love, and light.

Open my eyes to the people who are searching for hope, and when You give me an opportunity to witness, help me not to remain silent. Keep my light shining so somebody else can find their way to Jesus Christ.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.Ā šŸ™šŸ½šŸ’™
