🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ God’s Peace Will Calm You; Even in a Storm
Scripture: Acts 27:21–25 KJV
21 But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.
23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
Devotion :
Have you ever been in a situation so frightening that you didn’t know how you were going to make it through? 🥺
Maybe you’re in one right now.
Everything around you seems uncertain. You don’t know what’s going to happen next. And the more you think about it, the more afraid you become.
BUT DID YOU KNOW THAT GOD CAN GIVE YOU PEACE EVEN WHILE THE STORM IS STILL RAGING?
Whewww! 🙌🏽🙏🏽
It is so intentional how God led me to today’s Scripture about a violent storm, especially as we’re hearing about Hurricane Isaias and the possibility of dangerous weather coming our way. 🤯🙏🏽
And what makes this Scripture so powerful is that PAUL WAS ACTUALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF A LIFE-THREATENING STORM!
Paul was aboard a ship sailing toward Rome when they encountered a violent storm.
For days, the winds battered the ship. The sailors couldn’t control where they were going. They began throwing cargo and equipment overboard. And eventually, the people aboard lost hope of being saved.
The storm continued for about 14 days!
Can you imagine that? 😩
Fourteen days of uncertainty!
Fourteen days of dangerous conditions!
Not knowing whether you would live or die!
But something was different about Paul.
PAUL HAD A WORD FROM GOD! 🙌🏽🔥
An angel had assured him that he would stand before Caesar and that God would spare the lives of everyone sailing with him.
And look at what Paul said in verse 25:
“FOR I BELIEVE GOD, THAT IT SHALL BE EVEN AS IT WAS TOLD ME.”
OOOOOOEW WEEEEE! 🙌🏽🔥
THAT’S FAITH!
Paul wasn’t saying the storm wasn’t dangerous. He wasn’t pretending the ship wasn’t in trouble.
He knew exactly what was happening!
BUT HE BELIEVED GOD MORE THAN HE FEARED THE STORM.
And that’s what I want us to understand today.
God’s peace doesn’t always mean the storm immediately stops.
Sometimes it means YOU CAN REMAIN STEADY WHILE THE STORM IS STILL GOING ON.
My, my, my! 🙏🏽
Imagine receiving a frightening medical report.
You go home and immediately start imagining the worst. You can’t sleep. You lose your appetite. Your mind won’t stop racing. You’re physically exhausted from worrying about something you don’t even have all the answers to yet.
Now imagine taking that same concern to God in prayer.
You still follow your doctor’s instructions. You still attend your appointments. But instead of allowing fear to consume every moment, you ask God for strength, wisdom, and peace.
THE SITUATION MAY NOT HAVE CHANGED YET, BUT YOUR ABILITY TO FACE IT HAS. 🙌🏽
Or maybe you’re facing financial trouble.
The bills are due. Your money is short. You don’t know how everything will get paid.
Without peace, you may become overwhelmed, irritable, lose sleep, or make desperate decisions that create even more problems.
But when you seek God, pray, and trust Him, you can begin approaching the situation with a clearer mind.
You can make a plan. Seek help. Take the next responsible step. And trust God with what you cannot control.
PEACE HELPS US THINK CLEARLY WHEN FEAR WANTS US TO FALL APART.
Whewww! 😮💨
And there are two things I really want you to remember from today’s devotion:
WE HAVE TO BE OBEDIENT TO GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS, AND WE HAVE TO BELIEVE HIS WORD AND THAT HE WILL GET US SAFELY THROUGH ANY STORM.
Paul had actually warned the men earlier that continuing their voyage would bring danger, but they didn’t listen.
Now they were experiencing the consequences.
Yet God, in His mercy, gave Paul a promise and further instructions that would help preserve their lives.
FAITH DOESN’T MEAN IGNORING INSTRUCTIONS.
It means trusting God enough to FOLLOW THEM.
And when we’re facing a literal storm, that includes taking weather warnings seriously, preparing, and following evacuation instructions when necessary.
Prayer and preparation belong together! 🙏🏽
But whether the storm is happening outside your window or inside your personal life, remember this:
YOU DON’T HAVE TO LET FEAR TAKE CONTROL OF YOU.
Philippians 4:7 tells us about the peace of God that surpasses all understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
That’s the peace we need!
The kind of peace that helps us rest when we don’t have all the answers.
The kind that steadies our hearts when circumstances are frightening.
The kind that reminds us that GOD IS STILL WITH US.
And please understand, having God’s peace doesn’t mean you’ll never feel afraid.
It means you don’t have to let fear determine what you believe or how you respond.
Paul believed God’s specific promise to him, even before he saw how everything would work out.
“FOR I BELIEVE GOD!”
Can you say that today?
Even with everything you’re facing?
Even when you don’t know what tomorrow holds?
LORD, I BELIEVE YOU! 🙌🏽🙏🏽
I may not know how this situation will end.
I may not understand everything that’s happening.
But I know You are with me, and I trust You to guide me through it.
DON’T LET THE STORM STEAL YOUR PEACE.
Hold on to God’s Word.
Obey His instructions.
Keep praying.
Keep trusting.
And allow His peace to calm your heart, even when everything around you hasn’t calmed down yet.
THE STORM MAY STILL BE RAGING, BUT GOD CAN KEEP YOU STEADY IN THE MIDDLE OF IT. 🙌🏽💙
Reflect & Respond
Think about the storm you’re facing right now.
Have I allowed fear to take control of my thoughts and emotions?
Am I following God’s instructions, or am I allowing fear to lead my decisions?
Do I believe God’s Word even when my circumstances look frightening?
Today, take a moment to pray specifically about what has been troubling you.
Then ask yourself:
“AM I GOING TO TRUST GOD, EVEN BEFORE I SEE HOW THIS WORKS OUT?”
Remember Paul’s words:
“FOR I BELIEVE GOD!”
Let that be your declaration today. 🙏🏽
Prayer :
Father God, You know every storm I’m facing and every fear in my heart. Please calm my fears, increase my faith, and give me Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help me obey Your instructions, trust Your Word, and not fall apart when life becomes difficult. Lord, protect me, guide me safely through my circumstances, and remind me that You are always with me. Even when I cannot see the outcome, help me confidently say, “I BELIEVE GOD!”
In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen. 🙏🏽💙
