PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ Abiding In God Is the Key to Consistent Success
Scripture: John 15:5 NIV
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Devotion :
Have you ever unplugged something and then wondered why it wasn’t working? 😂
You keep pressing the button.
Nothing.
You check the settings.
Nothing.
You might even get irritated with the thing!
Then somebody says:
“Is it plugged in?”
👀🤦🏽♀️😂
Well…
SOME OF US ARE TRYING TO LIVE UNPLUGGED FROM GOD AND WONDERING WHY THINGS AREN’T WORKING!
Whewww! 😮💨
We continue trying to do things WITHOUT GOD and still expect great, long-lasting success in life.
We make decisions without praying.
Choose relationships without seeking Him.
Start businesses without seeking His direction.
Accept opportunities because they look good.
Make financial decisions based solely on what we want.
Handle our marriages according to our emotions.
Raise our children according to whatever sounds good to us.
Try to carry stress, grief, pressure, responsibilities, and problems with our own strength.
Then when everything starts falling apart:
“LORD, HELP!”
😂🙏🏽
And thank God He DOES help us!
But what if we stopped treating God like emergency assistance and started making Him our DAILY SOURCE?
That’s what Jesus is teaching us in today’s Scripture.
Jesus says:
“I am the vine; you are the branches.”
Picture a grapevine.
A branch doesn’t produce grapes because it’s talented. 😂
It produces because it is CONNECTED TO THE VINE.
The vine supplies what the branch needs to live and produce fruit.
Separate that branch from its source…
and eventually it dries up.
Jesus makes it plain:
“If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit…”
In other words:
STAY CONNECTED TO ME.
Abiding isn’t visiting God occasionally.
It’s REMAINING.
Living connected to Him.
Praying.
Reading His Word.
Listening.
Obeying.
Depending on Him.
Allowing His Word to shape your decisions.
Letting Him correct you.
Seeking His direction.
Walking with Him when things are good AND when things are bad.
DON’T JUST VISIT GOD. ABIDE IN HIM.
🙌🏽🔥
And Jesus says when we do:
“YOU WILL BEAR MUCH FRUIT.”
There’s your multiplication!
God can produce things through a connected life that you could never manufacture by yourself.
And understand this:
SUCCESS IS MORE THAN HAVING A LOT OF MONEY.
You can have money and your family be falling apart.
You can have money and have no peace.
You can have a successful business and unhealthy relationships.
You can have thousands of followers and nobody you can trust.
You can have a beautiful house and hate being inside of it.
Money is a blessing and useful for many things…
BUT MONEY ALONE IS NOT A SUCCESSFUL LIFE.
I’m talking about fruit in your WHOLE LIFE.
Peace.
Wisdom.
Healthy relationships.
Good stewardship.
Spiritual growth.
Purpose.
Character.
Self-control.
Love.
Joy.
Faithfulness.
And wisdom to care for your health and what God has entrusted to you.
That’s the kind of fruit I want! 🙌🏽
Now, abiding in God doesn’t mean every area of life will always be easy or that believers never experience sickness, loss, financial difficulty, or relationship problems.
But it means YOU ARE NOT NAVIGATING ANY OF IT WITHOUT YOUR SOURCE.
WHEWWW! 🙌🏽
There’s a difference.
Imagine somebody receives a great job offer.
The salary is higher.
“THANK YOU JESUSSSS!” 😂🙌🏽
But they never prayed about it.
Never considered what the schedule would do to their family.
Never considered the environment.
Never asked whether it aligned with where God was leading them.
They only saw:
MORE MONEY.
Six months later they’re making more money…
but their marriage is strained, they’re exhausted, they have no peace, and they’ve completely disconnected from the things that once kept them spiritually grounded.
The opportunity looked like success.
But was it?
👀
Now imagine someone else who stays connected to God.
They pray before making major decisions.
They allow Scripture to correct their behavior.
When they’re angry, they ask God how to respond.
When an opportunity comes, they don’t automatically chase it just because it pays more.
When their marriage is struggling, they don’t simply follow their feelings; they seek God’s wisdom.
When they succeed, they remain humble.
When they fail, they seek God for correction.
When God says WAIT, they wait.
When God says MOVE, they move.
When God says NO, they trust that He sees something they don’t.
Over time, look at what begins developing:
FRUIT.
Their decisions become wiser.
Their reactions become healthier.
Their relationships can become stronger.
Their character matures.
Their faith grows.
Their priorities change.
Their ability to recognize what doesn’t belong in their life improves.
THAT’S MULTIPLICATION.
🙌🏽🔥
It isn’t because they suddenly became perfect.
THEY STAYED CONNECTED TO THE SOURCE.
Then Jesus says something that we really need to hear:
“…apart from me you can do nothing.”
Now obviously people who don’t follow God can accomplish things.
They can build businesses.
Earn degrees.
Become wealthy.
Buy houses.
Become famous.
Jesus isn’t saying a person physically cannot accomplish a task without acknowledging Him.
He’s teaching His disciples that lasting spiritual fruit, the kind of life He is producing through us, cannot be produced independently of Him.
And this is where we sometimes get ourselves in trouble.
WE WANT GOD’S FRUIT WITHOUT GOD’S FELLOWSHIP.
👀 Whewww!
We want peace…
but don’t want to stay in His Word.
We want wisdom…
but don’t seek His counsel.
We want healthy relationships…
but don’t want His correction.
We want purpose…
but don’t want obedience.
We want God to multiply what we’re building…
but haven’t even asked:
“LORD, IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT ME BUILDING?”
OOOOOOEW WEEEEE! 😮💨🔥
A branch doesn’t tell the vine:
“I GOT IT FROM HERE!”
😂😂😂
No you don’t!
STAY CONNECTED!
Because sometimes the greatest danger isn’t failing immediately after disconnecting from God.
It’s continuing to appear successful for a while and convincing yourself that you don’t need Him.
🥺
Don’t wait until everything dries up to reconnect to your Source.
ABIDE IN GOD.
Embrace Him.
Talk to Him.
Listen to Him.
Study His Word.
Obey Him.
Invite Him into your plans.
Invite Him into your marriage.
Invite Him into your parenting.
Invite Him into your finances.
Invite Him into your career.
Invite Him into your business.
Invite Him into your decisions.
Invite Him into your health choices.
Invite Him into EVERYTHING.
Stop trying to produce by yourself what Jesus said comes from staying connected to Him.
YOU ARE THE BRANCH.
HE IS THE VINE.
And Jesus said:
“IF YOU REMAIN IN ME…YOU WILL BEAR MUCH FRUIT.”
That’s the key.
Not visiting.
REMAINING.
Not only calling when you’re in trouble.
ABIDING.
Not trying God for a little while.
STAYING CONNECTED.
If you want consistent, God-centered success…
STAY CONNECTED TO THE SOURCE.
🙌🏽💙
Reflect & Respond
Take an honest look at the major areas of your life:
My relationship with God
My family and relationships
My career/business
My finances
My health
My decisions
Now ask:
“AM I ACTUALLY INVITING GOD INTO THESE AREAS—or AM I TRYING TO HANDLE THEM MYSELF?”
Then identify one area where you’ve been operating independently of God.
Today, reconnect.
Pray about it.
Find out what His Word says about it.
Listen.
And be willing to obey; even if His direction is different from yours.
DON’T JUST ASK GOD TO BLESS YOUR PLANS. ASK GOD TO HELP YOU BUILD HIS.
🙏🏽
Prayer :
Father God, I don’t want to live disconnected from You. Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to handle life completely on my own. Teach me to abide in You daily. Guide my decisions, relationships, finances, health, work, and purpose. Produce in my life the fruit that I cannot produce by myself. Help me remain connected, listen to Your voice, obey Your Word, and trust Your direction.
Lord, I embrace You as my Source.
In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏽💙
