🕊️ PRAY HERE Devotion 🕊️ Nebuchadnezzar Eats Humble Pie

Scripture: Daniel 4:31-34 (KJV)

31 While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.

32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.

34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever…”

Devotion:

Have you ever heard someone say,

“Nobody can humble you like the Lord.”

I have heard that saying all my life.

Whewww! This is also a perfect example that “pride goes before a fall.”

Today’s scripture is a perfect example of both.

Yesterday, we talked about Nebuchadnezzar’s arrogance and pride. God lovingly warned him through Daniel to repent and turn from his sins.

But instead of humbling himself…

He kept talking.

He kept bragging.

He kept taking credit.

He kept acting like he was the reason Babylon had become so great.

My, my, my!

Now let’s look at today’s scripture.

The Bible says,

“While the word was in the king’s mouth…”

Stop right there!

He didn’t even get finished talking!

Whewww!!

Right while he was praising himself…

God spoke back.

Can you imagine that?

Nebuchadnezzar was talking junk…

And God interrupted him.

The Lord basically said,

“Oh great king? Let Me remind you who is really in control.”

“The kingdom is departed from thee.”

Whew!!

Yesterday he was king…

Today he wasn’t.

One thing this teaches us is that God gives, and God can also take away when His blessings are abused or misused.

Everything we have belongs to Him.

Our position…

Our influence…

Our ministry…

Our business…

Our talents…

Our money…

They’re all gifts from God.

The glory belongs to Him.

Let’s make this practical.

Have you ever seen someone become successful and suddenly they start treating people like they’re beneath them?

Or maybe someone gets promoted and now they don’t have time for the very people who encouraged them when they had nothing.

Or someone becomes popular in ministry and starts acting like they don’t need God anymore.

Whewww!

Be careful.

Success should make us more grateful…

Not more prideful.

The Bible says Nebuchadnezzar lost not only his kingdom…

He lost his mind.

For seven years he lived away from people.

He ate grass like an ox.

His hair grew long like eagle’s feathers.

His fingernails became like bird’s claws.

Think about that.

The man who once lived in a palace…

Now lived like an animal.

The man who once wore a crown…

Now crawled through the grass.

The man who once gave commands…

Had lost his own understanding.

My, my, my!

But I love God’s mercy.

The story didn’t end there.

Verse 34 says,

”…I lifted up mine eyes unto heaven…”

That’s it!

His eyes finally looked in the right direction.

Then he did something he hadn’t done before.

He praised God.

He acknowledged that God alone rules over every kingdom.

And the moment he gave God the glory…

His understanding returned.

Whew!!

Did you catch that?

When his praise went up…

His sanity came back.

Glory to God!

Sometimes the greatest breakthrough in our lives begins when we stop praising ourselves and start praising God.

Today, I want to lovingly encourage you.

No matter how much God blesses you…

Never forget where your blessings came from.

No matter how high He allows you to climb…

Stay humble.

No title…

No position…

No accomplishment…

No amount of money…

Will ever make us greater than God.

If God opens the door…

Give Him the glory.

If God blesses your family…

Give Him the glory.

If God heals your body…

Give Him the glory.

If God grows your ministry…

Give Him the glory.

Because the same God who gives blessings deserves the praise for them.

Reflection

Take a quiet moment today and ask yourself:

Am I living in a way that continually gives God the glory, or have I slowly begun taking credit for what only He could have done?

A humble heart will never lose sight of the One who made the blessing possible.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for every blessing You have entrusted to me. Forgive me for every proud thought, arrogant attitude, selfish ambition, or moment where I failed to give You the glory You deserve. Deliver me from every spirit of pride that resembles the heart of Nebuchadnezzar. Help me to remain humble no matter what You allow me to accomplish. Remind me daily that everything I have comes from You. Let my words, my decisions, and my life always point people back to You. Lord, keep my heart tender enough to receive correction before I ever need to be humbled. May I never confuse Your blessings with my own greatness. I choose today to lift my eyes toward heaven and give You all the praise, honor, and glory. You alone are worthy.
