Scripture: Psalm 121:1–2 (KJV)
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”
Devotion: When I was a child, I used to read the Bible every day with my granddaddy. Psalm 121 was one of his favorite scriptures. He would pause while we read, look up to heaven, and praise God.
He knew where his help was.
Do you know where your help comes from?
Who are you looking to for help?
Often times when we get in a bind, God is not the first aid we run to.
Some people run straight to people; calling friends, family, or anyone who will listen, hoping they can fix it or give the right answer. Others run to money or quick solutions; thinking if they can just throw money at the problem or figure it out themselves, everything will be okay.
But what happens when people don’t have the answers?
What happens when money can’t fix it?
That’s when reality hits.
What if we thought like the psalmist who wrote today’s scripture… or like my grandfather who depended on God for everything?
What if our first reaction was not panic, but prayer?
Not stress, but surrender?
Not running everywhere, but looking up?
What are you going to do the next time you face something?
Where are you going to look when depression, loss, pressure, financial struggle, health issues, relationship problems, fear, or doubt try to make you break?
As for me…
I will lift up my eyes to the hills; because my help comes from God!
He is the only one capable of handling ALL things.
People may mean well; but they are limited.
Resources may help;but they run out.
But God?
He never runs out of power.
He never runs out of wisdom.
He never runs out of help.
When you truly know where your help comes from, it changes how you respond to life. You stop depending on unstable sources and start trusting the One who made heaven and earth.
So the next time life hits…
Don’t just look around.
Look up.
God bless you.
Prayer: Father, help me to remember where my help truly comes from. Forgive me for the times I looked to people and things before I looked to You. Teach me to lift my eyes to You first in every situation. Be my strength, my peace, and my provider. I trust You to handle what I cannot.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
