Scripture: Philippians 4:19 (KJV)
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Devotion: There will be times in life when you simply cannot do everything yourself.
You will need God.
For most people, that’s when panic tries to set in.
If truth be told, many of us have faith…
Until we actually need it.
It’s easy to talk a good faith game when everything is going well.
“God is good all the time!”
“I’m trusting the Lord!”
“God will make a way!”
Whew!
But what happens when your paycheck suddenly stops?
What happens when the doctor gives you unexpected news?
What happens when your child needs something you cannot provide?
That’s when your faith gets tested.
I knew a minister once who would out-praise just about anybody.
They were always smiling.
Always talking about faith.
Always declaring how good God had been.
Life was comfortable, and everything was going well.
Then something unexpected happened.
They became unable to work for an unknown period of time.
Whew!
The praise became worry.
The confidence became fear.
Every conversation was filled with hopelessness.
It reminded me that there comes a time when every believer has to use the faith they say they have.
Faith is not proven when life is easy.
Faith is proven when life becomes difficult.
Then there are those who don’t believe in anyone but themselves.
They proudly say,
“I don’t need anybody’s help.”
Until life humbles them.
A business fails.
Their health declines.
A loved one dies.
An unexpected financial hardship comes.
And suddenly they realize something…
We can’t do everything.
We need God.
My, my, my!
Let’s look at today’s scripture.
Paul didn’t say,
“God might supply your need.”
He boldly declared,
“My God shall supply all your need…”
Glory to God!
Now don’t miss the last part of that verse.
”…according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
That is so important.
God supplies our needs according to His riches…
Not our limitations.
According to His wisdom…
Not our understanding.
According to His glory…
Not merely our comfort.
Sometimes God provides exactly what we asked for.
Other times He provides what we actually need.
Either way…
He is a good Father.
And good fathers take care of their children.
Whew!
So when trouble comes…
Don’t panic.
Pray.
When bad news comes…
Don’t worry.
Believe.
When you don’t know how it’s going to work out…
Exercise your faith.
Remember, faith isn’t just believing God when everything is fine.
Faith is trusting Him when you can’t see the answer yet.
If you know your faith has become weak…
Ask God for more.
The disciples did.
They prayed,
“Lord, increase our faith.”
There is no shame in admitting,
“Lord, I’m struggling to believe.”
He would much rather you ask for stronger faith than pretend to have it.
Before you leave today, ask yourself:
When the next trial comes, will worry be my first response… or will faith?
Choose faith.
Because your Father already knows what you need.
And He has promised to supply it.
God bless you!
Prayer: Father God, thank You for being my Provider. Forgive me for the times I have worried instead of trusting You. Help me remember that You already know every need in my life before I even ask. Increase my faith so that when trouble comes, I respond with prayer instead of panic and trust instead of fear. Teach me to rely on Your promises and not my own understanding. Thank You for supplying every need according to Your riches in glory through Christ Jesus. I believe You will make a way where there seems to be no way, and I choose to put my complete trust in You today.
In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🕊️
