Scripture: âBut someone will say, âYou have faith, and I have works.â Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.â âJames 2:18
Devotion: Our actions tell a lot about us. Your actions reveal your character, your mood (emotional state), your level of integrity, what you believe in, and what you care or donât care about ; just to name a few things. Itâs safe to say that our actions can expose a lot, even our faith in God.
Have you ever known someone who speaks faith, but their actions show doubt? They say, âOh, Iâm trusting in God,â yet they worry and try to fix the very thing they claimed to trust God for. James said, âI will show you my faith,by my works â meaning, youâll see my faith through my actions.
Youâre going to know I have faith by how Iâm moving, thinking, talking, responding, and what my actions are.
What does that look like?
Here are a few examples:
When Peter got out of the boat to walk on water (Matthew 14:29), his faith moved him to act.
Moses obeyed God and led the Israelites out of Egypt, following Godâs instructions in faith.
Noah built the ark, trusting Godâs word that a flood was coming, even when it had never rained before.
Our level of faith determines our obedience to God and His Word. If you have faith that God will supply your financial needs, you wonât be stealing, lying, hustling, or going into unnecessary debt. Instead, youâll pay your tithes and offerings and steward what you have wisely while waiting for more to come.
We put our actions into the things we believe. The person putting money into a slot machine at a casino acts on belief ; they believe they will win. In the same way, when we truly trust and believe God, we act on that belief by obeying His Word and expecting good results.
When we donât believe, we do everything but obey God. Our actions will show our lack of faith through disobedience, negative words, avoidance of prayer, or neglecting time with Him. Why? Because deep down, we donât believe it will help.
So, you can say all day that you have faith ; but your actions will tell the truth.
Ask yourself:How much faith do I really have?
Pay more attention to your actions, and make the right adjustments according to what they reveal.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that faith is more than words ; itâs action. Help me to live out my faith daily in the way I think, speak, and move. Strengthen my obedience and trust in You, even when I donât see the outcome yet. Let my life be a living example of true faith that pleases You. In Jesusâ name, Amen.

Amen! As the young people say: we gotta walk it like we talk it!
