Scripture Reference: "Follow me as I follow Christ."â 1 Corinthians 11:1
Devotion: If somebody was to just start following you today; where are you going? Where will they end up? Would you want the world around you to be how you are currently? Are you a good example to follow?
A lot of us would honestly say no if we really thought about it. Maybe you are in debt because you are a poor money manager. Maybe you donât have friends or family to support you because youâre mean or push people away. Maybe you have a criminal record because you tend to break rules and are a bit hard-headed. Or maybe youâre simply still trying to improve yourself and donât feel like youâre in the right place for anybody to follow you.
But hereâs the question that matters most: Are you following Christ?
The Apostle Paul boldly said, âImitate me as I imitate Christ.â He wasnât trying to draw attention to himself, but to lead people to God and to a better way of living. Paul understood that following Christ is always more beneficial than just blindly going your own way. Christ is the creator of all things; including you, and He alone knows best the way you should go.
Following Christ also leads to blessings. Paul experienced Godâs provision and strength everywhere he went. He was blessed with wisdom to teach, boldness to preach, peace even in prison, and joy in the middle of suffering. God used Paulâs obedience to spread the Gospel across nations and to change countless lives for eternity.
When you choose to follow Christ, your life becomes an example that others can safely follow. It doesnât mean youâll be perfect, but it does mean that youâll be leading others toward Jesus; the One who makes all things new.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for calling me to follow You. Help me to walk in a way that honors You and leads others closer to Christ. Forgive me for the times Iâve been a poor example, and give me strength to be consistent in my walk. May my life reflect Your love, Your truth, and Your wisdom. Let others see Christ in me, and may I be a light that points people toward You.
In Jesusâ name, Amen.
