Scripture Reference:"So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."â Psalm 90:12
Devotion: Every day God gives us is a gift. Today is not just another day, itâs one of one. You will never see this exact day again. Thatâs why itâs so valuable and priceless. Each day deserves wise decisions, because one poor choice can not only ruin today but also affect the days ahead.
For example, imagine someone who spends their entire paycheck in one day, buying things they donât need. The very next day, they lose their job. Now what? Regret sets in, and the weight of yesterdayâs unwise decisions begins to crush today.
Or think about someone who allows anger to control them. In one heated moment, they make an emotional decision, say something they canât take back, or worse, commit an act of violence. That one bad decision can land them in prison, costing them their freedom, their family, and their future. All because of one unwise choice in one unwise moment.
I remember teaching this scripture years ago to a young womenâs group I was leading. When they realized that every single day was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, it made them pause and think differently. Each day carries enough responsibility of its own. Why waste it on careless decisions youâll regret tomorrow?
Another example, wasting an entire day doing nothing productive when you had important tasks waiting. The following day, youâre rushed, stressed, and paying for the time you wasted. Thatâs why God reminds us: number your days, and apply your heart to wisdom.
Whatever you are doing today; before you speak, before you spend, before you act;
THINK and PRAY first. Today is worth a wise decision.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of today. Teach me to value every moment and to walk in wisdom. Help me to pause, pray, and think before I act so that my choices honor You and protect my future. Deliver me from impulsive decisions, anger, and regret. Guide me in self-control and sound judgment. Today is worth a wise decision, and I choose to trust You with it.
In Jesusâ name, Amen.
